America's Got Talent Hollywood Results Show, Part 1
Twelve of the Top Forty-Eight Acts Perform; Four Are Voted to the Second Round
The First Semi-Finalist on America's Got Talent
The first three talents to be called to the stage were Airpocalypse, Nathaniel Kenyon and Sally Cohn. Last night, Airpocalypse had new outfits and female dancers on stage with them as they danced and "played" The Knacks' My Sharona. Nate looked more comfortable singing without his guitar as he sang Hinders' Lips of an Angel. Sally Cohn, who later said she had no idea that Nick Cannon was married to Mariah Carey, whistled Hero, a Mariah Carey tune. Of these three talents America likes Nathaniel Kenyon the best. He moves on to the semi-finals of America's Got Talent.
Selena Gomez & the Scene on America's Got Talent
After the first winner was announced, Selena Gomez (who??) & the Scene took the stage to sing. Sorry Selena, I had to fast forward through your singing to find out who the next semi-finalist would be.
The Second Semi-Finalist on America's Got Talent
The second trio of talents to be called to the stage was Fighting Gravity, Kung Fu Heroes and Nick Pike. Fighting Gravity is a group if frat brothers who came up with an entertaining concept using a black light. Kung Fu Heroes are a martial arts group. Nick Pike is a daredevil/juggler who likes to play with fire. This is a no-brainer - Fighting Gravity moves on to the semi-finals of America's Got Talent and is a favorite to win it all.
The Third Semi-Finalist on America's Got Talent
The third trio of talents called to the stage was Christina & Ali, Hot Shot Tap Dancers and Maricar. Christina & Ali are 2 sisters who have cystic fibrosis and have been told they would never be able to sing, yet they do sing surprisingly well. The Hot Shot Tap dancers are a group of adult siblings who are mixing classical tap with new wave music. Maricar is an artist who wears sexy outfits and shows a lot of cleavage and wiggles her bottom as she paints. It is a bit harder to choose the winner from this trio of talents, but in the end it is Christina & Ali who tallied the most votes from America and go on to be in the semi-finals of America's Got Talent.
Rock of Ages on America's Got Talent
Now it's time to take another break from America's Got Talent as the Broadway cast of Rock of Ages takes the stage. Rock of Ages is a Broadway show featuring songs from Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and more. Constantine Maroulis (a former American Idol finalist) took the stage belting out the Twisted Sister song I Wanna Rock. He was joined on stage by special guest Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame. Then the Rock of Ages group sang the Journey tune Don't Stop Believing. (To learn more about Dee Snider, tune in to A&E's Growing Up Twisted on July 27.)
The Fourth Semi-Finalist on America's Got Talent
Okay, now back to the show at hand. The fourth and final trios of talents left to be called onto the stage are Future Funk, Paul Safy Jr and RNG. Future Funk are a couple of very young guys (5-and 10-years-old) who entertain with hip hop. Paul Safy, Jr. likes to croon old rat-pack tunes. RNG is a group of talents 11-year-old girls who dance. These three talent acts received the lease number of votes from the 12 talents. First the act with the least number of votes will be dismissed and that is Paul. Nick Cannon is left standing between the two young acts and now it is up to the judges to decide who will be the final act in the semi-finals. Piers quickly chooses Future Funk just because he likes them better and Sharon chooses RNG for their technical skills; which brings us to the new judge, Howie. With only 30 seconds left to decide, Howie can't decide. He has young girls who love to dance but the guys are funny and adorable and the whole package - Howie chooses Future Funk at the last second!
Tune in Tuesday, July 20, at 9pm on NBC to see the next 12 talents perform on America's Got Talent. Then don't miss the results show on Wednesday, July 21 at 9pm on NBC to see who America voted for.
