America's Got Talent Live in Hollywood, Part 1

The Top 48 talent finalists for the 2010 America's Got Talent competition have been chosen. On Tuesday, July 13, 12 of the Top 48 talent acts performed but only 4 of them will be voted to the next round. You may agree or disagree with the America's Got Talent judges choices of who was worthy to be in the Top 48 and now it is time to let your voice be heard by voting for your favorite talent act thereby sending all those unworthy talent acts home. Along with a million dollar prize, the top vote getter and winner of the 2010 America's Got Talent competition will go on the first ever America's Got Talent Tour which includes headlining a show at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.

Airpocalypse on America's Got Talent
The American public seems to have mixed reactions to Airpocalypse. Some people look at them as a farce while others find them surprisingly entertaining. For their third appearance on America's Got Talent, Airpocalypse has new moves, new outfits and GIRLS! They took the stage with one guy wearing a kilt (that seems to be his signature style) with big spiked hair and big red boots to match; the second "guitarist" sported leopard print skin-tight pants and long curly hair while the "drummer" was lowered onto the stage as if he were using his black angel wings to fly down from the heavens. The group then put on a decent show opening with Final Countdown and using The Knacks' My Sharona as their songs of choice.

Christina & Ali on America's Got Talent
The sisters missed a few notes as they sang Rascal Flatts' Bless the Broken Road, but no one called them on it. Piers is right when he says it's a talent competition that's about more than the back stories of the contestants. (Then WHY show the back stories at all?) If they go through they need to pick up the pace some and sing something other than a soft ballad.

Fighting Gravity on America's Got Talent
These 13 frat brothers from Virginia Tech are "breaking the laws of physics" with their black light act. The puppet master appeared to manipulate 3 bodies and 8 bouncing balls around the stage performing moves that no human being could ever do. It's great fun to watch. Sharon says, "Blue Man Group, Cirque de Soliel, move over" there's a new group in town!

Future Funk on America's Got Talent
Future Funk had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction when the youngest guy's shirt sleeve didn't easily remove as it should have, but the audience didn't seem to care. Despite the small glitch the two young boys, 5- and 10-years-old, went on with the show. The crowd loves them. They are cute, adorable, hysterical and have star quality according to the judges.

Hot Shot Tap Dancers on America's Got Talent
The Hot Shot Tap Dancers decided to add a little miming to their act as they tapped to Madcon's Beggin'. The acting part of the routine was cheesy and I could have done without the bucket full of "money" as a prop. They need to move out of their safe zone and kick it up a notch if they go through.

Kung Fu Heroes on America's Got Talent
In the pre-show interview the Kung Fu Heroes said they were kicking it up a notch by using real weapons in their routine tonight. Sure, the weapons were real enough but there was no interaction with each other as in their previous routine. I was expecting to see some dangerous stuff, but instead I saw boring martial art-type choreographed dance moves with swords.

Maricar on America's Got Talent
Okay, we all know the guys love her, not because of her act or talent but because of the cleavage she shows. Her underwater painting was boring and so bad that Piers didn't even recognize that she painted him slapping his buzzer.

Nathaniel "Nate" Kenyon on America's Got Talent
Nathaniel decided to lose the guitar as he took the smoky stage to sing Hinders' Lips of an Angel. Despite the sore throat he sounded more comfortable in front of an audience than he has previously. His charm and good looks will bring him a lot of votes from the young females.

Nick Pike on America's Got Talent
No, Nick was not originally in the Top 48, but because of some unknown reason Twisted Trystan & Krystan have dropped out of the America's Got Talent competition. (Why? The reasons could be endless!) Performing to the song FIRE! Nick once again crams a lot of stunts, this time using fire, into 90 seconds - twirling fire, jumping through fiery hoops (don't lions usually do that?), balance on a seesaw while juggling fiery pins, and then he gets a big fat X from Piers when he gets on a fiery unicycle as he did in his audition. In the end he has two people light him on fire which took longer to do than him actually being on fire did.

Paul Safy Jr on America's Got Talent
Paul believes himself to be a part of the new rat-pack crew but I disagree. His rendition of Cry Me a River was okay but the hand gestures were overplayed. He needs to relax and work on his delivery and style of which there were none.

RNG on America's Got Talent
These 11-year-old girls are old enough to have left the "cute" vote factor behind and not old enough to be taken seriously in their dance. They danced on a foggy stage to Rihanna's Disturbia as they performed an age-appropriate act of a young girl having nightmares about her dolls turning into zombies and coming to life to torment her.

Sally Cohn on America's Got Talent
The quirky Sally came out in a sparkly shirt and sparkly stars on her block she uses for her foot. She must have been going for some brownie points as she hand-whistled Hero, a Mariah Carey tune. (To the uninformed: Host Nick Cannon is married to Mariah.)

Going by the audiences responses to the acts, I predict the 4 to go through to the next round to be:

1. Fighting Gravity
2. Future Funk
3. Nate Kenyon
4. Airpocalypse

I know, I know - Airpocalypse doesn't have any "talent", but I think America finds them entertaining as much as Sharon, Piers and Howie do. We'll find out tonight when America's Got Talent reveals who the top 4 are that America chose.

Tune in Wednesday, July 14, at 9pm on NBC to watch America's Got Talent to see who America voted for in the results episode. The top 4 vote getters will go on to perform in the top 24 and the second round of eliminations. Special guests will be Selena Gomez, Rock of Ages and a special surprise guest.

On a side note: NBC announced that America's Got Talent has been renewed for a 6th season, scheduled to air in the summer of 2011. No other show information has been released yet, but rumors say that they may be looking for a new judge to replace Piers. Piers is rumored to be the lead candidate to succeed Larry King's timeslot on CNN which has people wondering if he will be allowed to appear on two vying networks at the same time.
