"America's Got Talent" Live in Hollywood, Part 4
Murray Wows Howie, ArcAttack Shocks Piers, and Sharon Loves Prince Poppycock!
The Top 48 quarter finalists for the 2010 "America's Got Talent" competition have been chosen. On Tuesday, August 3, the fourth set of 12 from the Top 48 talent acts performed but only 4 of them will be voted by America to the next round.
(NOTE: Voting for this episode is now closed. America can only vote for their favorite act from 10:55 pm ET on Tuesdays to 6:00 am ET on Wednesdays after the Hollywood Live show has aired. For more information on voting check this out.)
Da Maniacs on "America's Got Talent"
Half of these oversized dancing men started off good dancing to the Blues' Brothers "Soul Man," but then it all went bad they took off some clothes and started bouncing to MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This"- complete with shiny gold cargo pants. Eek! Piers suggests they try out for another show - "The Biggest Loser."
NU Covenant on "America's Got Talent"
While gospel singers Willie, Michael, Mark and Chris showed promise in previous acts, tonight their harmonies were way off which earned two red X's from Piers and Sharon.
Anna & Patryk on "America's Got Talent"
These two 12-year-olds really know how to cut a rug. And they even looked like they enjoyed themselves as they put on a happy face with some big smiles.
Lindsay Stirling on "America's Got Talent"
I don't know how it sounded live, but sitting at home I could barely hear the violin over the background music (probably sue to bad mixing) therefore I did not notice any notes missed as the judges stated. Still, although Lindsay has a unique act, there's just not enough there to sustain an audience for very long. Piers doesn't think she is a great violinist and gives her an X for her efforts.
Doogie Horner on "America's Got Talent"
Howie likes Doogie; Piers does not. But tonight Doogie actually managed to get Piers to crack at smile at his jokes and to not X him. I find Doogie too monotonous and his jokes too dry and boring.
Rudi Macaggi on "America's Got Talent"
"I like you." That's Rudi's favorite phrase. This third generation circus performer scared the judges and the audience with his "Circular Saw of Death" routine. He did a handstand on top of some blocks balanced on two stools with a circular saw spinning on the floor between the two stools. Then he pushed the blocks away and fell toward the spinning blade before he caught himself on the stools before his head hit the blades. Howie admits he didn't look and Sharon had her eyes covered. Did you watch?
Taylor Mathews on "America's Got Talent"
Taylor did not take the judges previous advice and move out of his comfort zone in his song choice. Viewers only saw and heard a smidgen of the potential Taylor has as he sang "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" by The Script.
Mary Ellen on "America's Got Talent"
I'm surprised that Piers gave Mary Ellen as much time as he did before he X'd her. Even the big stage props announcing we were enjoying "Mary Ellen's Round Up" and the dancing cowboys and cowgirls couldn't overcome the BAD singing and keyboarding.
ArcAttack on "America's Got Talent"
It sounds like there were some technical difficulties with fuses, bulbs and electricity in general at ArcAttack's last performance so this time a special stage was constructed outside for them. These guys make all their stage props in their garage at home. As the guitarist dressed something like a spaceman takes center stage and starts playing Ozzy's "Iron Man" lightning bolts flash from the two giant Tesla coils on each side of him onto his guitar. He switches places with another band member who uses two light sabers to control the flashing bolts of lightning. Other band members are dressed similar with their outfits decked with neon lights. After the performance Sharon informs the group that, "Next time you do Ironman I know a singer that can sing for you." ArcAttack is one of my top five picks to win it all.
Prince Poppycock "America's Got Talent
This classical singer not only has an amazing voice but he is also a great entertainer. The man behind the makeup has a very quiet and shy personality, but once the makeup is on he is Prince Poppycock! Prince Poppycock is another of my top 5 picks.
Murray on "America's Got Talent"
First, magician Murray tells Howie he has a present for him - one of his female assistants. Then he asks Piers if he can borrow his suit jacket. Piers complies with the guarantee that he will get it back. One of Murray's assistants dons the jacket and gets into a big glass cage - all four sides are clear glass. Murray raises a sparkling purple cloth up around the cage. As the girls dance all around him, Murray tells the audience, "You will be talking about this trick tomorrow." (And he's right; we are.) Just seconds later, Murray tugs on a rope that releases the cloth to reveal a live tiger in the cage. But where is Howie's present? She taps Howie on the shoulder still wearing Piers' jacket. Howie has been looking for an act to make him go "Wow!" Murray not only wowed Howie and the other judges but he also made him pee his pants - just a little. After that performance Murray deserves a spot in the top 5.
Strikers All Stars on "America's Got Talent"
So what dance moves do Strikers All Stars have that dance groups Wreckless, South Philly Vikings and Studio One Young Beast Society didn't have? None that I saw.
It was easy for me to pick four talents to go through to the finals from this group of 12. My picks are Anna & Patryk, Murray, Prince Poppycock and ArcAttack with the last three going to the top 5 where they will be joined by Fighting Gravity and Haspop. I'm not expecting to see anything spectacular from the YouTube acts we'll see next week. Going in with my expectations low it will make it easy to wow me if there are some good acts found there.
Tune in Wednesday, August 4, at 9 pm ET on NBC to see who America voted for in the results episode. The top 4 vote getters will go on to perform in the top 16 from the 48 and the second round of eliminations. Special guests will be musicians Bret Michaels and Taio Cruz.
