"America's Got Talent" in Seattle

Seattle's Second Chance on "America's Got Talent"

Sandy James
"America's Got Talent" unleashed more of Seattle's talent as contestants performed their acts on stage. Of course, not all the contestants were human or acted human, but that's the fun in watching this great show. Talent can be found anywhere; well, almost anywhere.

The weather was bad and the auditions were just as bad as "America's Got Talent" came on the air. Midway through, the sun came out and Seattle started to show some promising talent.

Although "America's Got Talent" began with a series of washed out performances that will not be going to Las Vegas, there were several promising acts that were cheered by the audience and moved by the judges.

The Art of Teknique

A group of three youngsters who skillfully danced their way on stage and were very professional in their movements. Their ages are 8, 9, and 10 and the judges were unanimous in sending them to Las Vegas. Judge Piers Morgan said they were "absolutely brilliant", while Judge Howie Mandel felt they had "unbelievable dance moves and skill". Keep your eye on these youngsters in the next round.

BGP

A musical band of three young men, Brandon, Dustin, and Josh who played instruments and sang to Elton John's "Benny and the Jets". Lead singer Brandon's vocals were wonderful and Judge Sharon Osbourne said she'd like to see them be more original as they had great vocals. We will see what they come up with next in Las Vegas.

Geechy Guy

"America's Got Talent" can sometimes find a good act that may wind up in Las Vegas on their own, and Geechy Guy is one of those acts. A stand-up comedian with great one-liners that he writes, Geechy Guy holds the world record of telling over 677 jokes in a one-hour period. The audience loved him, Judges Howie and Sharon loved him, but alas, the hard-to-please Piers did not find Geechy Guy even remotely funny. Piers lost this judgment as Geechy Guy got approval from Howie and Sharon and will be going to Las Vegas.

Of course, "America's Got Talent" wouldn't be complete without some controversial performers, whacked-out acts, or simply weird contestants. Seattle has its share of these 'crazies' and here's some of the unmentionables.

Brian Jackson

Unfortunately, Brian Jackson was the first performance of the evening and he wasn't able to do what he said he could do. Brian claims to hold the world record of blowing up hot water bottles. Okay, "Why would anyone do that?", was Howie's logical question. Jackson claimed he's blown up three water bottles in 1 minute and 8 seconds to claim the title, but he couldn't blow up one water bottle on "America's Got Talent". Backstage, Nick Cannon was also trying to blow up a water bottle, but he failed miserably also. Piers called this the "most pointless thing I've ever seen" and Jackson was sent home.

Marylee

Falling into the weird category is Marylee who writes songs about people who have died. Marylee wrote a song about Piers Morgan, who is still alive and kicking, and sang it with flat vocals against a backdrop of highlights about Piers. Nick Cannon was in tears and Piers gave her a resounding 'yes' vote. Howie and Sharon, however, voted her off and we will not have to watch or listen to her again; at least not on this show.

Alaska

What would "America's Got Talent" be without a fun act that gets the audience riled up and Nick Cannon performing on stage? Alaska is a 48 year old from, you guessed it, Alaska and he performed his interpretation of freestyle dance to "Flashdance". Howie was gracefully moving in his seat while Nick Cannon was gyrating backstage. Although the dancing was not exciting, the music was great as we watched the "freestyle Alaska dance". Alaska was given an unanimous 'no' by the judges, however, Nick Cannon did not accept that and came out on stage and asked the audience if they would like to do the "Alaska dance"? The audience roared, the music began again, Alaska and Nick Cannon did their freestyle interpretation onstage, and Sharon and Howie stood up and danced with them. Only Piers, the party pooper, stayed in his seat.

If you haven't tuned in to "America's Got Talent" it's a great show, full of entertainment some of which is questionable, but it's a light-hearted evening of fun. The show is on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 9 EST on NBC.
