Soulful Singer Michael Grimm Comes Out on Top

This year's America's Got Talent winner is...Michael Grimm. As everyone held their breath waiting for America's Got Talent emcee Nick Cannon to announce who the winner would be, Grimm stood next to Jackie Evancho, looking down at the floor. Prince Poppycock and Fighting Gravity had already been eliminated, so it was down to these two finalists. Talk about tension...

Both Michael Grimm and Jackie Evancho have performed flawlessly on America's Got Talent, which is why it's not surprising that the final vote came down to these two extraordinary performers. Either could have won.

America's Got Talent finale started out with each of the judges commenting on the finalists. Judge Howie Mandel said, "This is a scary moment." All the America's Got Talent judges agreed that no one could predict the winner because all the finalists were very talented.

America's Got Talent Top 4 contestants each chose one of their musical heroes to perform with. All performances were entertaining crowd-pleasers, and it was the first performance that got the show off to a great start.

Prince Poppycock was the first performance as he sang a medley with disco queen Donna Summers. It was a lively act as they sang to "Last Dance" and "Enough Is Enough." They sang well together and it got the audience responding.

Michael Grimm sang "Me and Bobby McGee" with his musical hero, Jewel. The duet was nicely done by both singers and the audience loved it. Before Grimm even started to sing, the audience was on their feet clapping for him. It was obvious that Grimm was very popular with the crowd.

Next up on America's Got Talent was Fighting Gravity performing with Lionel Richie. As Richie sang one of his popular songs, "Dancing On the Ceiling," Fighting Gravity performed upside-down, sideways, and straight up to the song. The performance was another crowd-pleaser, and there's no question that Fighting Gravity should be in Las Vegas.

The last duo to perform on America's Got Talent was Jackie Evancho and opera star Sarah Brightman. The two sang "Time To Say Goodbye" together and it was another perfect performance by Jackie Evancho. As ten-year old Jackie Evancho walked on stage, the audience got to their feet cheering her on. Jackie has always shown good composure during her performances and she did so again last night.

America's Got Talent emcee Nick Cannon announced that there was a record breaking number of votes for this year's Top 4 finalists. It would've been nice to hear what those numbers were, but they were never announced.

The two-hour program ended with the announcement of Prince Poppycock coming in fourth place; Fighting Gravity placing third; and Jackie Evancho as runner-up to winner Michael Grimm. The tension was over.

So, what happens to Michael Grimm now? Grimm has always said that if he won, he would replace the home his grandparents lost during Hurricane Katrina. He was raised by his grandparents in Mississippi and they have been supporting him every step of the way.

Besides winning the $1 million, Grimm will also get to headline his own show in Las Vegas as the America's Got Talent winner. He will also join the America's Got Talent Tour, along with the other Top 10 contestants. For a listing of the America's Got Talent tour dates and cities, just click on this link.

All of these America's Got Talent finalists should be very proud of themselves for peforming so well on the show. They are all stars, and just because three of them didn't win doesn't mean that they are not winners.
