America's Got Talent Winner Michael Grimm Still Humble

Michael Grimm was my pick for winner of this season of America's Got Talent and I'm happy to report that he did indeed win the $1 million dollar prize. Grimm, a blues singer from Mississippi, was about to be sent to foster care with his sister when his grandmother stepped in to rescue them. He normally played in clubs and bars to a small crowd of patrons with the hopes of helping his grandparents pay the bills. His goal was to win America's Got Talent and help his grandparents the way they helped him.

Grimm's heart felt emotion on the first audition of America's Got Talent was what won my heart over. He showed heart, feeling and soul which the judges (Sharon Osbourne, Piers Morgan, and Howie Mandell) could feel in the air when he sang his audition song "You don't know me" originally done by Harry Connick, Jr. During his time on America's Got Talent, Grimm sang several songs that the judges loved although Piers Morgan did criticize Grimm's performance of "Try a Little Tenderness" for going over the 90 second limit placed on contestants.

After struggling through an illness, Grimm, kept up the fight to win America's Got Talent. Grimm performed "You can leave your hat on" while being sick and the judges still loved his performance. "Let's Stay Together" put Michael in the top 10 and moved him to the top 4 spot of contestants on America's Got Talent. He beat out Jackie Evancho, the child star with a phenomenal voice that you have to hear to believe, to win the $1 million dollar prize.

After his win, Grimm performed "When a Man Loves a Woman" for the final episode of America's Got Talent. He also experienced a duet with one of his favorite singers, Jewel, when they sang "Me and Bobby McGee". The humble musician told People after the win, "My grandparents don't have to worry about anything anymore. I can't put into words what that means to me. They've supported me in the music through the years, and they've seen me fall and get back up and keep going. Now I can take care of them."

The soulful musician can be seen during the America's Got Talent Live Tour starting October 1st.

He is my lil celebrity crush- his voice just chills your bones! I'm glad he won- his voice is amazing raw talent :) I don't think he'll let fame go to his head either

It's nice to hear humility and true gratefulness.

The problem with that "million dollar prize" is that it is doled out over 40 years - $25,000 a year. If one of the larger groups had won (Fighting Gravity), it would have been just a few thousand a year each. But, I agree with you: he was my favorite.

Since I don't watch TV, I've never actually seen America's Got Talent, but I just watched the Youtube video, and his interview brought tears to my eyes. What a lovely person. He definitely deserved to win.
