America's Largest Waterpark Resort

When you look at a map of this immense wonderland, it looks like a small city. The Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., lives up to its slogan - America's Largest Waterpark Resort.

Don't worry, though. There are small, cozy places to unwind and get away from any crowds. You can relax on a winding river, sip a drink in one of the intimate bars or unwind in your own Jacuzzi cabin or hotel room. Your choice of accommodations runs the gamut from simple hotel rooms to villas, rustic cabins to condos. Some of the free-standing vacation villas can house up to 20 people.

But if non-stop action, water, thrill rides and arcade madness gets your heart pumping, then that can be found all over the massive property. The resort caters to families, couples, honeymooners, kids, parents and grandparents. They also host quite a few family and class reunions.

It's your choice where you want to spend your hours - and there's plenty to choose from - including the three indoor waterparks for year-round fun, the three outdoor waterparks for summer-time amusement, variety of restaurants and lounges, and an array of dry fun from arcades to lazer tag to a make-your-own pottery center.

This summer alone, the resort is opening up several new attractions. The Haley's Comet Racers will be part of the lost World Waterpark. Thrill seekers get to start out on a mat, head-first, and ride through lots of turns and twist. They end up at a fast speed going through one of four open racing lanes.
If it rains one day, check out the new Wild WaterDome Indoor Waterpark. Put on your sunscreen because this is a place that you can tan year round under its see-through roof.

If you are worried that your kids are too young for such a place, the resort owners have thought of you, too. There are plenty of areas designed just for small children to play, splash and enjoy themselves without parents fretting, too much.

If you don't want to get too much sun or you want a special place to relax, you can rent a poolside cabana - inside or out. You can also relax in one of the indoor-outdoor Jacuzzis. A few of them actually flow from the indoor to the outdoor. It's a great place to be in the wintertime as the snow is falling.

The resort also will be opening a new golf course this fall. The appeal of Wild Rock Golf Club will not only be its challenging holes but its beauty. The designers left many of the natural surroundings in place including the woody areas to a natural stream to the rugged sandstone cliffs.

When you get hungry and thirsty from all the activities, step into one of the many eateries. They range from breakfast buffets at the Wild Canyon Café to gourmet burgers at the newly opened Monk's at the Wilderness to prime steaks at Field's at the Wilderness.
