America's Spiral Downward

Rhiannon
Living in America today is not all it is cracked up to be. The United States has taken a turn for the worse. Does anyone even remember 9/11? That one day, America was united, stood together and mourned the loss of so many. Where is that unity today? How have we come to this hurry up and make money and live on the fast track society?

This country was once a wonderful place, where you loved your family, knew your neighbor, respected the earth, believed in your country. We are now a people of greed and malice and unspeakable horrors against humanity. This country does not represent the people, it represents the people in office. It caters to people across the globe and neglects the people here.

America is no longer a place of dignity and grace, it is now a place of retaliation and disgust. We send millions to other countries to feed, clothe and shelter them while millions lie hungry and cold in our streets. We seek to educate children from other countries when our children attend dilapidated schools with violence, drugs and a severe lack of discipline. We pay for medicine to go to other countries while our aged are forced to choose between shelter and food or their medication. We pay exorbitant gas prices because some of our government officials are in the oil industry. We "defend" our country by sending our servicemen to die. When foreigners come to our country they are allowed to obtain monies from a system we have paid into all our lives that will no longer be available to us when we reach the age of retirement. Our welfare system seems to only assist those who are unwilling to try to advance themselves as opposed to those who need a helping hand to stay afloat and get back on their feet. Our government condones the abuse of Americans while assisting illegal immigrants. We are forced to endure the atrocities of justice which reign in this country. Incarcerated felons get better health care than the average American, whose taxes support them. We do not feel safe in our homes. We cannot protect our homes because should someone break into your home and attempt to rob you and harm you they can sue you for shooting them. Our health care system does not protect Americans, it cripples them. Our elderly get substandard care in nursing home and assisted living facilities. Our children cannot play outside alone without the underlying fear of kidnapping, assault or worse. We try to fix other countries when ours is in complete upheaval. We suffer injustices at the hands our our fellow countrymen, most of them our government leaders. We spend countless dollars on research only to be told a few years later that that research is wrong. All the medications they advertise on television have more side effects than are acceptable to cure what ails you.

We have been on this path for some time now and the repercussions have begun. When will Americans realize that our government is not standing behind us, but opposing us. Our government does not want to hear what the American people say. They live in their fine houses with three elegant meals a day and know they will be taken care of for the duration of their lives while the people who work endlessly to maintain this country are used up and throw away like an old dirty tissue. When do the people who actually make this country get what they deserve? When are the "little people" shown the appreciation they so rightly deserve?

Are we going to stand aside and watch the American way of life continue down this path? Is there anything we can do to stop these atrocities? Are you willing to speak up for your beliefs? Are you willing to take a stand against the "establishment" for what is just and fair? Are you willing to put your opinion out there? Or are you afraid "Big Brother" will come down on you because you speak freely? We have slowly, so as not to draw attention to it, been stripped of our inalienable rights. Censorship should be a choice parents make for their children, not for officials to make for the American people. Are higher gas prices linked to the fact there are oil men in office? Do you have the right to protect your family from harm while still fearing being sued by someone intending harm to you or your family? There seems to be an overwhelming trend in America to not interfere, to keep the peace. If you don't stand up for your rights I can guarantee the government isn't going to come to your rescue! We have the right of free speech, USE IT!

Speak your mind, share your opinions, donate to your favorite AMERICAN charity --- for charity begins at home, get out there and make a change for the better for the generation that follows, leave this place better than you found it. Leave your children with an America they can be proud of.

Life is about changes and changes have brought me here to express in writing what I lack in speech. I do not have any formal writing experience, so please forgive some rambling.  View profile
