AmerTac Recalls Night Lights (2/09/11): Fire and Burn Hazard
The Night Lights Can Overheat, Then Smolder or Melt
An electrical short circuit in the night light can cause it to overheat and smolder or melt, which can burn consumers or result in fire. AmerTac has received 18 reports of the night lights smoking, burning, melting and/or charring, including three reports of minor property damage and one of a minor burn injury.
Three night light models are being recalled: model numbers 71193, 71194 and 327879. Only those with KML molded on the back are being recalled. All three models have KML, ETL, the AmerTacâ„¢ logo and the model number molded on the back of the night lights' plastic housing.
Model number 71193 is a square shaped, white plastic unit with a flat translucent square window on the front and a button for changing the screen color. Model 71194 and 327879 resemble a computer mouse with white plastic housing and inset translucent windows on the front and sides.
These night lights were sold at hardware stores, lighting showrooms and home centers nationwide from March 2009 through January 2011 for about $7.
Consumers should stop using the recalled night lights immediately and unplug them from the wall. Contact the firm for instructions on receiving a full refund.

Please tell them about it by visiting https://www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/incident.aspx.
The CPSC reminds consumers that it is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Thanks RC for this important warning!
Well, I just bought an LED nightlight for Dad so I'm going to print out your article and check his model numbers. This isn't good.
Nice work ruth. That's just what we need. A night light that helps us get through the house at night, catching the dang place on fire.
