AMF Forged Hybrid Review

Good Looks, Low Cost

MikeBabjak
AMF Golf has long made quality, low cost golf equipment for the average or recreational player. Their known for their packaged sets which include everything a golfer needs to get started from driver to bag. I will be reviewing a few of their non packaged products in the next few posts. If you are just getting started in the game, I would suggest asking your local pro about AMF Golf products.

The AMF Forged Hybrids are full of technology at half the cost of your major brands. They feature a very thin miraging steel face for added "hit" at impact and the face also features a fair amount of bulge and roll to help your ball consistently find its target. The face itself is separate from a stainless steel body which allows for more weight to be distribute to the rear of the club as well as the heel and toe areas for forgiveness on off center strikes. The one feature I enjoy about the AMF Forged Hybrids is the tungsten weighing in the sole of the club. This makes the club very easy to use and launch the ball into the air, which is exactly what the hybrid was designed for. The slight offset hosel makes the club easy to square at impact and the soft tip graphite shaft feels very solid when the ball is hit.

I first tried AMF Golf products a couple years ago with their wedges and were very impressed. It was not until we started to stock their equipment in the shop that I tried a few other clubs of theirs. They hybrid looks fairly lean at address, a little bulky and offset for my taste, but again, this is designed for maximum forgiveness for the intermediate to beginning player. I was able to launch the ball very high with this club. The internal weighting really made the ball shoot into the air at a very high launch angle. The softer tipped shaft also helped to get the ball airborne quickly. I like the club overall, I was only able to hit it straight and high with the occasional slight draw due to the offset hosel, but for the type of player this club is designed for, it will be a miracle worker compared to having to hit your 2-3-4-5 irons!

At half the cost of other hybrids out there, I'd give one a try, what do you have to loose but strokes!
