Story : Nobody plays Armored Core for the story. However, there is a story to be had here. Some political intrigue, betrayal, all that good stuff is present but not a big part of the game as Armored Core is primarily a Mecha simulation beat em' up.
Graphics : The graphics in this game are extremely good. A very big boost for Armored Core 4 overall. The backgrounds are much better, the mechas are even better, everything is drawn and animated very well. The Playstation 3 was utilized well this time around, and it shows. Graphically, this is the best Armored Core game yet.
Sound : The game's music is focused on being ambient and not distracting. It succeeds well, but one can't help but feel like they missed yet another opportunity to have incredible music in a game featuring giant death robots. They missed out here, for sure. Still, the music fits well and the sound effects are good enough. Overall not a huge improvement over Armored Core 4 but still an improvement.
Game play : The control in this game is even better than in previous games. Everything is more sensitive and responsive, in a good way. The mechas themselves feel light and easily handled. You can change the config to anything you wish, and overall the game is easy to pickup but hard to master which is what most games should be. Everything here is a complete joy. There isn't anything left out, and it shows. The mechas are extremely customizable as always, but in this game the options are literally endless. You could spend hours upgrading your mechas in several ways.
The Armored Core series has never been so free, so non-linear. You really feel apart of the world this time around. You can fight any way you wish, go where you want, really soak in the backgrounds, listen to the music. Everything here is quite engaging and the game play is very non confrontational. Even with a weaker mecha this game is an an absolute blast to explore.
Re playability : The game has several different story lines and a nearly infinite amount of Mechas possibilities. What does that mean? An extremely re playable game that is bound to be a favorite in your collection to revisit for years to come.
Overall : 8/10. Excellent game play, great graphics, solid story, mediocre sound. Recommended.
