Amy Bishop: Alabama University Biology Professor Accused of Shooting Rampage

Amy Bishop, Alabama University biology professor accused of shooting rampage. Amy Bishop is a Harvard-educated neurobiologist whose students said had difficulties with reality. She was reportedly inside a faculty meeting discussing tenure, when she opened up and started shooting. Three people died as a result of the tragic shooting.

Those injured were faculty members at the University of Alabama- Huntsville. Reports indicate that the suspect was denied a promotion. It's also reported that she told police officers that the shooting didn't really happen and that those that were reported dead are still alive. Times Online reports: "One of the faculty members killed in the attack was said to have met with Bishop to discuss a tenure position, which would guarantee job security. The university told him Bishop got angry and started shooting, Sammie Lee Davis said. He claimed his wife had told him previously that Bishop was "not able to deal with reality" and "not as good as she thought she was".

Surprisingly, this isn't the first time that Amy Bishop may have killed. There are reports that indicate that Amy Bishop may have shot and killed her 18 year old brother back in 1986 using a 12 gauge shot gun. Bishop said that she was asking her mother how to unload a gun when it went off, killing her brother. She was getting questioned and charged with the crime when a police official said that she was to be released to her mother.

Records from the case disappeared in 1987. Furthermore, after the shooting, she is reported to have pointed the gun at someone's car as they were passing by where her brother was just shot.

If the theories surfacing about her brother's death are true, any cover-up of that crime could have very well cost the lives of 3 innocent people. Why the police would have covered up any sort of crime such as this is uncertain.

In the coming days, we will hear more information about the shooting. Given that Amy Bishop told police that the shooting didn't happen, and that there could be a history of this type of behavior don't be surprised if there is some sort of mental evaluation completed on her. At this time, she's charged with the murders but she's not guilty unless she confesses or is tried and found guilty by a jury of her peer.

At this time, we can only mourn the loss of those killed by the brutal attack. There will be more developments coming out as the investigation continues.
