Amy Finley: The Gourmet Next Door

Premieres October 14, 2007 1pm/12c

Amy Finley, the winner of The Next Food Network Star scheduled to premiere on her new show, The Gourmet Next Door, Sunday, October 14, 2007. Amy Finley won The Next Food Network Star after being voted off. Her opponents were Rory Schepisi and Joshua Adam Garcia (JAG). When JAG admitted to lying to producers and fans, he resigned which meant that Amy Finley had a second change.

Since she was voted off before Rory Schepisi, many would think that she would have been voted off again before Rory and hence make Rory the winner. This did not happen however and Amy Finley won her very own cooking show on The Food Network, The Gourmet Next Door. It is better that Amy Finely won anyhow since Rory is a very successful restaurant owner already, which you do not find out until the end of the show.

On the other hand, Amy Finley is a stay at home mom who traveled to Paris, which she talks about repeatedly. That is actually, the basis for many of her recipes. The goal of Gourmet Next Door is to teach people tips and tricks to making simple gourmet meals that you would find in fancy restaurants like in Paris.

Amy Finley's first episode on October 14, 2007, will be called, Nod to the Bistro. Her first episode will be about making French favorites without the fuss. What a surprise, she will be focusing the very first, The Gourmet Next Door on French food. Did she travel to Paris? Oh right, she did, how could I forget after hearing it a million times. Her profile on the Food Network website even has an article entitled, Amy's Paris Guide for Parents.

Whether The Gourmet Next Door will be a success and bring her into the limelight of primetime, only time will tell. Personally, I think the gourmet style is going to get old and people will start to wander away from The Gourmet Next Door. Sure, people like to make their food look good but I do not think many people want to make them look gourmet all the time. This is why shows like, Rachael Ray's, 30 Minute Meals and Paula Dean's, Home Cooking have taken off.

They make their meals look good but do not base their whole show on it. Of course, cooking gourmet meals would be good for a special occasion or if you are entertaining guests but not for your average family dinner. If you placed some gourmet looking food in front of some kids, they are not going to jump up and down in excitement. They will probably say, "What is up with this?".

I do not want to beat Amy Finley down before she has a chance to succeed because I think it is great that she is a stay at home mom. Many stay at home moms would love to follow her example and be on their way to success after being home with their children. I just think that now that she won her own show, she will need to step it up and give her fans who voted for her something they will enjoy without listening about her trip to Paris every single episode.

Most of the cooking shows are entertaining. For the life of me can't understand why R. Ray is on all the time, she really can't cook!!
Paula Dean licks her fingers, than resumes cooking with same hand! No one ever wares anything to protect the hair. Hair being touched by hand and resume cooking. Where is the sanitation? Paris is not the only place in the world. There are many European countries with delicious and gourmet cuisine. FA could be given another chance, she is no better or worse than any other out there in cooking land.

Amy WAS boring as hell. Not to mention her stunning guacamole recipe which consisted of avocados and lime juice - PERIOD! She is not missed.

I miss Amy. You really didn't give her many shows to show what she can do. I would rather see her than fatso Paula Deen and don't care for the Neeleys at all or Sandra Lee who thinks we are babies and that Boom character or Jamie or who ever the Rescue Chef is and I could go on and on. So Amy talked about Paris-so does Paula. Please give Amy another chance. After all she was woted as the new Network Star.

Has anyone seen the first season shows of any one of the food net stars? I have, as I am along time Food Network watcher. I think folks need to be fair, and remember, all of the first shows were , shall I say lacking. If it took Paula, Giada, Bobby, Tyler, and even Emerald, Time to relax and find there nitch in front of the camera, as well as there recipies , then I think Amy deserves the same. I feel as tho the network as well as the audience need to give her the time and encouragement the rest of them got. It is very obvious that a lot of the negative comments are coming from upset viewers that wanted a different outcome, or are still upset that the whole Jagg situation even happened. But it is not fair to take that out on Amy. She deserves the same as the rest of the cooks on the network. Best of luck to you Amy , I, and everyone I know, are waiting happily to see you again.

    Hey,
Did I tell you about the time I went to Paris? In Paris, where I went, I had fabulous gourmet food and a fantastic time being there, in Paris. Paris is so great and I've been there, to Paris. You all should really go, to Paris, where I've been. Oh, and come see my new show this fall. Its all about Paris, where I've been. Have you?

I wondered what happened to your show, Amy. I missed the first one and hoped to add you to my Saturday morning lineup but can't find your show. Maybe they are planning to add The Gourmet Next Door to December's schedule. Hope so....I know you can do it.

I've been watching GND and with the first show being boring, dull and a waste of my time, I decided to give it another shot, and another, and another, but it's still the snoozefest it was when it first started. This show needs to get canceled.
