Amy's Non-Dairy Vegetable Pot Pie, Review

For years I had been wanting to try Amy's Non-Dairy Vegetable Pot Pie, but one measly ingredient was keeping me from trying it. That ingredient, honey. Most of the time non-dairy products under the Amy's brand mean vegan. At least in my experience, but this Amy's Vegetable Pot Pie was an exception. I'm happy to say a former exception.

At some point not too long ago Amy's removed the honey making their vegetable pot pie vegan. I cheered seeing the news in my email. My goal then became to try their new and definitely improved pot pie. It took awhile since I couldn't find that specific Amy's product in my local grocery store and didn't have the funds to make the occasional long trip to Whole Foods like I use to. Recently I found myself in the area of a Whole Foods and stopped in and bought a couple of the vegetable pot pies to try.

There wasn't much doubt in my mind that Amy's Vegetable Pot Pie would be good. I have yet to try an Amy's vegan product that wasn't good. I did worry slightly about the carrot and peas, vegetable I detest, in the pie but I figured it would be OK.

The directions call to bake it in the oven or half in the microwave, half oven. I was a little disappointed to have to use the oven, but it works out fine. The package says "Do not use a toaster oven." So what did I do? I used my toaster oven. It was summer I didn't want to heat up my oven and house to cook one pot pie. The verdict, it cooked just fine in my toaster oven. And, the exact directions on the package cooked it perfectly.

It taste just like a yummy traditional vegetable pot pie. It has a mix of potatoes, peas, carrots and tofu in a flavorful gravy. Plus, it has the perfect amount of gravy to coat all the perfect bite sized vegetables and fill the inside and add a nice flavor to the pie. The crust, sticking to Amy's healthy roots, is a healthy whole wheat and not a refined white. Though, healthy taste is not what comes across when eating it. The crust is not too thick or thin and it is not at all mushy, even when first out of the microwave. Though it isn't exactly crispy either, somewhere in between.

I find Amy's Non-Dairy Vegetable Pot pie to be very filling. There were a few too many peas and carrots for my taste but even with my distaste for peas and carrots the flavor combinations of the pot pie are just too good to keep me away. I would definitely buy this again.
