My wonderful mom brought me over a couple of canned Amy's products she picked up at her recent shopping trip. Out of those couple cans one was the Amy's Baked Beans. I had actually been craving baked beans and planned to make some, but never got around to getting the necessary ingredients. Plus, I wasn't looking forward to the work it would take if I did get the ingredients. Finding out not only that Amy's makes baked beans but to have a can while my craving was striking was perfect.
Amy's Baked Beans are just like the traditional version with the exception that they are better. They are vegan, organic, non-gmo, kosher and have absolutely no artificial anything or preservatives. They use organic white beans in the traditional sweet tomato based sauce. The taste is comparable to traditional baked bean just without the icky piece of animal fat floating in it. The beans are nice and sweet while the beans are firm but soft. They are cooked to a perfection which I could never achieve on my own. The sauce is lightly thick, enough to stick and cover the beans but not thin enough to be soupy.
There is about 3 and ½ servings per can and 120 calories in one servings and ½ gram of fat. The sodium is 480 mg and sugar at 9 grams. There is also a healthy 6 grams of fiber and protein. As well as a whopping 15% of iron.
I use to buy Bushes vegetarian baked beans and thought that was the only veg. option out there. I am so glad to find Amy's makes vegan baked beans. I definitely plan to buy these again for barbecues or general baked bean cravings. You can't go wrong choosing a company that stands for something.
