An Addiction to the Internet

Sharon Morris
I believe many people have an addiction to the internet. Before the internet most people got their information from newspapers, books and television, but since we have the internet we get most of our information from logging on everyday. Don't get me wrong, the internet is a wonderful thing but I must admit I don't read books as much as I used to, nor do I read newspapers as much. I log on everyday and this is where I get my information. But I do love logging on everyday and I don't think I could do without it now. I have even found ways to make money online, which is a wonderful thing. I believe I am addicted to the online world but it is a good thing.

I do miss reading books but I don't find the time to anymore because I am online most of the time either writing articles, checking email or posting on discussion forums. I used to write letters to pen pals but now it is email that I write which I find easier and faster anyway. The internet is a great tool for communication and learning. Children even do their homework online and I do most of my research online as well.

When my computer broke down not too long ago I didn't know what I was going to do without being able to be online everyday. I was able to borrow my mom's computer until ours was fixed. I was so glad that I wasn't going to have to miss one day online which made me come to the realization that I was hooked. I wonder how many people actually realize they are hooked or will admit to it? Well I admit to it but I still think it is a good addiction.

So if you weren't able to log on everyday, what would you do? Would you find yourself going to the library everyday to log on to the internet or would you find a way to borrow a computer until you were able to get a new one? I am just so grateful for the online world because I am able to make extra money and find the information I need really fast. I can shop online if I want without having to leave my home and chat with my friends in real time. I have made many friends on the internet and I don't know what I would do without them.

Thanks for referring me to your article here on AC. If I couldn't log onto the Internet for a few days (even hours!) I'd soon go batty. Must have my e-mail, blogs, AC...etc....
