An American Carol Pokes Fun of Liberal Ideology
Review of Documentary Comedy Attacking Michael Moore and Liberalism
Although "An American Carol" is fiction (and chances are the real Michael Moore will always remain a far left loon), the character of Michael Malone (played by Kevin Farley) offers hope that one stooped in anti-Americanism can see the errors of his ways and change. What's more, the comedy offers conservatives, such as myself, 90 minutes of sheer laughter.
Actor Kevin Farley bears an uncanny resemblance to the Hollywood filmmaker, Michael Moore, who produced the leftist documentaries, "Fahrenheit 911" (2004) and "Sicko" (2007). Besides representing Michael Moore, the character of Michael Malone is also a parody of the character of Ebenezer Scrooge in the holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol". Whereas Scrooge hates Christmas, Michael Malone hates America and the old-fashioned values she stands for.
Although a documentary, "An American Carol" does have a plot. In short, filmmaker Malone (after originally trying to abolish the Fourth of July) foils the plan of three Islamic terrorists who duped Malone, as they schemed to blow up Madison Square Garden. Repenting of his former beliefs and actions, he stands in front of an auditorium of military personnel, begging forgiveness.
Just as Ebenezer Scrooge, historical ghosts of both the past and future visit Malone, as well as the angel of death. The ghosts represent famous Americans including John F. Kennedy, General George S. Patton and George Washington. Each historical character takes Mr. Malone back into history in an effort to make him change his mindset that deciding to go to war is always a bad choice and that world leaders can reason with evil dictators. When Malone steps into the future, he's shocked to see a world run by Islamic terrorists because Americans opted to lay down their war weapons, surrendering to their enemies. When the angel of death leads him to his own tombstone, he's ready to reconsider his dangerous views.
Other parallels to "A Christmas Carol" include Malone's nephew (representing Bob Cratchit) who is a young soldier going off to war, leaving behind his family whose children need financial help for physical handicaps.
Personally, the highlight of the film was seeing Bill O'Reilly (played by himself) slap Malone in an outhouse. When Malone shouts back, "You're not a ghost, O'Reilly laughs, replying, "I just enjoy slapping you."
Besides Bill O'Reilly, (host of the popular Fox News Network show, "The O'Reilly Factor"), Paris Hilton and Gary Coleman also play themselves. The film also spoofs other American liberals (played by actors), including wimpy 39th U.S. President, Jimmy Carter and bigmouth, Rosie O'Donnell (playing the character of Rosie O'Connell, who, of course, is paranoid of "those radical Christian extremists", contending 9-11 was an inside job.)
I also loved one of the earlier scenes where Malone was in Cuba, interviewing deathly ill Cubans, waiting in line for free health care, only to pile into Malone's boat headed back to America.
The satirical documentary is written and produced by American film director, David Zucker (producer of the film "Airplane!" in 1980). Rated PG-13 it does contain some scenes containing violence , as well as mild, inappropriate language for young viewers. However, for older conservative Americans, it's a breath of fresh air as it gives those of us on the right an opportunity to make a statement against the beliefs of the real Michael Moore and his despicable documentaries attacking American values. I'd recommend this comedy to any red-blooded American who loves this country and isn't ashamed to stand up for liberty and all those values we Americans still hold dear.

Post a CommentI will have to watch this someday. I refuse to watch anything involved with Michael Moore.
I heard tonight on "O'Reilly" that the actor who plays Carl Rove was invited to be on the show, and he said he'd come ONLY if he got it in writing that O'Reilly would not interrupt him at all. I thought that was a hoot!
Good deal! Thanks for the review. I must see that one.
