After almost 100,000,000 votes in a jaw dropping upset, Kris Allen, the dark horse contestant, was declared the winner of American Idol Season 8. Adam Lambert, a phenomenal performer in his own right, was believed to be the frontrunner throughout this season. Idol fans had to wait patiently until 10:08 PM EST to hear Kris declared the winner after listening to two hours of big star musical guests performances with the Top 13 contestants.

Tonight's finale was packed with star power and musical entertainment. The Top 13, all dressed in white, kicked off the night with a group performance of Pink's So What. Next, last season's winner, David Cook performed his new song Permanent. David announced after his performance that all proceeds from this song will be donated to a Cure For Cancer in memory of his brother who passed away last week. Lil Rounds performed Que The Rain with Queen Latifah and all of the contestants performed I'm Yours with Jason Mraz.

Kris Allen and Keith Urban performed a duet of Keith's song, Kiss A Girl. The female contestants sang Fergie's Glamorous and Allison introduced Fergie who sang Big Girls Don't Cry and the Black Eyed Peas performed their hit, Boom Boom Pow. Next, Allison Ireheta and Cyndi Lauper performed Cyndi's classic hit, Time After Time. Danny Gokey and Lionel Richie performed Lionel's hit Hello and Lionel performed another classic, All Night Long. Adam Lambert performed the famous KISS ballad, Beth. Adam introduced KISS, in full make up, who performed two of their biggest hits, Rock City and Rock & Roll All Night.

Carlos Santana and the Top 13 performed Santana's hit Black Magic Woman. The guy contestants sang Rod Stewart's Do You Think I'm Sexy? Adam introduced Rod who sang one his most popular anthems, Maggie May. The oddest performance of the night had to be Megan Joy and Michael Sarver singing Pretty Flowers written by comedian, Steve Martin. Steve accompanied them on banjo along with fiddles and violins.

Idol also brought back its Golden Idol awards, otherwise known as the awards for some of the most memorable contestants of the season. Nick Mitchell a.k.a. Norman Gentile received the outstanding male award. Nick transformed into Norman and sang and crawled around the stage as his acceptance speech. The Outstanding Female award went to Tatiani Del Toro, the contestant made famous by her crying spells. And, the Best Attitude award went to Katrina Darrell also known as Bikini Girl. During her audition Katrina criticized Kara for doing a good imitation of her. In a twist of payback, as Katrina dressed in her trademark bikini was singing Vision of Love, Kara surprised her on stage and sang along with her. But, the biggest shocker came at the end of the song when Kara ripped of her dress to show her own black bikini.

Kris and Danny performed the last song of the night, and a brilliantly appropriate and touching selection, We Are The Champions accompanied by none other than Queen. Congratulations to both Kris and Danny for a great season.
