This Day in History is an educational software for the iPhone that would show you a calendar page for a historical event that took place on the same day. For example, on July 7th, the construction of the Hoover Dam began in 1747. Historical events for the current day are shown automatically. A similar application made also by Software MacKiev is available for the Mac OS X Dashboard.
This Day in History would be a very useful tool to increase your knowledge about history though this is not the first educational application released for the iPhone, earlier in the week, Unbound Media has announced a medical application for the iPhone. Since the iPhone cannot run third party applications directly from the device, it relies on widgets made by developers so that it can run on the iPhone's Safari Browser. This means that any software would only run when you have an internet connection and it would not be available when you're offline.
Jack Minsky, President of Software MacKiev has said that he wanted the iPhone the first time he saw it and was thrilled their company would be continuing its role on the cutting edge of Apple technology by releasing their first iPhone only a week after Apple's iPhone launch. He even goes on to add that the iPhone is the future of computing and they're excited to have versions of their famous consumer and educational software titles running on the iPhone.
Software MacKiev is known for developing award winning educational software and also the world's largest company that helps publishers in adopting their software for Apple's products. Some of their more famous software includes Kid Pix, Print Shop for Mac, and World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia where there's also a widget called Today in History.
The company is planning to release more iPhone applications that includes 3D Weather Globe & Atlas that can display weather information on your iPhone, though the iPhone already has a built-in weather widget, and World Book Trivia Challenge, that asks questions taken from the Company's World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia. Both of this iPhone applications are all planned to be released later in the Summer.
This Day in History is free to use and is already available to access at the Software MacKiev's website.
