An April Fool's Prank on My Roommate

The Classics Are Always the Best

My favorite April fools memory occurred about two years ago and unlike most April fools event was actually fairly spontaneous. It all started early one evening when a friend came from out of state to visit me and my roommate.

After a long night of partying, and knowing that our guest was going to want to party again that night I decided to take a little afternoon nap while my roommate and guest decided to go do some chores (separate chores). I was asleep for a couple hours when I heard my phone go off and recognized it as my roommates ring tone. I didn't have enough energy at that moment to spring out of bed and grab my phone so I just let it go to voicemail. A few minutes later I checked my message; my roommate was coming home to pick something up and was wondering if I was awake.

Before I could even get dressed I heard my roommate come through the main door so I quickly threw on my robe, slowly opened my bedroom door so as to not make a clicking noise and made my way out to a miniature wall in the living room. I was sure he had seen me but when he didn't even acknowledge my presence I realized I must've been giving him too much credit. As he walked into the nearby kitchen I quickly hid behind the wall. When he finally exited the kitchen and rounded the living room wall I jumped out with the classic "Boo!"

Fortunately my roommate didn't have anything too terrible in his hands but he was holding a container of peanuts... which went flying all different directions. Once he calmed down he thought it was exited pretty funny and admitted that I had gotten him good. For the benefit of those who have never lived with a small group males I'll explain this by saying pulling stupid pranks on your roommates is something as a guy you are not allowed to get mad about; instead you laugh and smile knowing you now have immunity towards pulling a prank sometime in the future.

Our favorite part of the story, both my roommate and I, is the fact that it took us three whole days to find the lid to the peanut jar. It turns out that when he threw it in the air it must have bounced off some walls as it ended up in a room a good 30 feet away and around several corners.

The wall I had been hiding behind is not an actual part of the building wall but rather a cubicle wall we have found on the street corner and put up in our apartment to present the illusion of extra space. After using it to hide behind and scare my roommate I woke up the next morning to find our cubicle wall in the dumpster; I broke down laughing the moment I saw it sticking out of the green garbage bin.
