An Arkansas Guide to Summer Festivals

It's that time, to get out the lawn chairs and the sunscreen. It's time for summer festivals! But choosing which ones to go to can be a challenge; so here is your guide to Arkansas summer festivals. There is a festival that is affordable and fun to attend each month across the state, so that you can stay right here, but still have loads of fun.

May 31th- June 13th: There is a great music festival happening in Hot Springs; it's the "14th Annual Hot Springs Music Festival." This festival has over 200 international musicans, 20 concerts, and 250 open rehearsals. Musical acts include: symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, chamber music, oratorio and opera. Most events are free, but the ones you pay for range from $5-25 dollars. This would be a great festival to go with if you are looking to expand your mind with certain kinds of music you may never have heard before, while still staying in one of the most relaxing towns in Arkansas.

June 3rd-June 6th: Here is a festival for the whole family to enjoy: the "27th Annual Steamboat Days Family Festival." It's in Des Arc, Arkansas, and they have many fun things planned for this event. Gospel night, beauty pageant, live entertainment, bass tournament, motorcycle poker run, carnival, arts and crafts, tractor pull, and crawfish eating contest are just a few of the things they are planning on doing. Best of all: It's free! So pile up all the family and get over to Des Arc for Steamboat Days!

July 4th: There are things in every town to do on our nation's independence day, but there is one that rising above the rest. : "5th Annual 4th of July Blowout" in Perryville, Arkansas. The proceeds benefit the Perry County Foster Children's Fund. It features featuring live music, food, raffles, family fun events, amateur fireworks competition, horseshoe tournament and other games and events for the whole family! It's only $2.00 for parking.

July 25th-July 26th: "T Tauri" is the astronomers' term for a new star, and you are sure to find one at the "5th Annual T Tauri Film Festival" in Batesville, Arkansas. It's a competition between young adults under the age of 18 that shows their filmmaking abilities. Most screenings are free, but the finale costs about what it would cost for a movie. This is a fun way to go to a film festival without having to drive very far.

August: Though the specific date hasn't been set this is something worth checking up on again. "25th Annual Frisco Festival" in the Rogers Historic District. Area businesses sponsor the biggest party in town including free rides and amusements. Signature events include: The Chilisalsapeno Competition, Kid's Connection, Frisco Chicken BBQ, Frisco Idol, several car shows, and non-stop main stage entertainment starting and ending with the Friday & Saturday Night Street Dances, this a fun and exciting thing to end your summer with!
