Camp Fire USA was founded in 1910 as a youth service organization for girls across the country. In 1975 the group expanded to include boys, according to research. Along with serving children in traditional club programs, the Camp Fire Council has been running resident camp programs since 1923 with the opening of Camp Kiwanee in Hanson, MA.
"Camp Fire USA is as rich in tradition as it is history," states one website.
It is one of the nation's leading not-for-profit youth development organizations.
