An Autumn Verse

Thomas Cleveland Lane
Fall can be a misery,
every now and then.
Days get shorter, 'til the shortest,
then wintertime again.

But still the searing heat is gone
of summer's languid days;
less time to fuss about the lawn,
more time for fun and games.

The football season's in full swing.
It's "Play ball!" one last time,
until the middle of the spring,
when summer games re-start.

And fall's a time for tricks and treats
and giving thanks one day-
a time to have a splendid feast;
a time to stop and pray.

A time of year to rally,
this season we call fall;
between the heat and bitter cold,
the best one of them all.

    Oh, I'm with ya, Tom... autumn is my favorite season! Blessed relief from summer's oppressive heat, crispy cool days, fun holidays (one just for playing dress-up!), harvest time, minds set to learn new things, & best of all, God's throwing multi-colored confetti all over the place like a big autumn party before nature's winter rest! Like your poem & your cool fall focus. : )

    Lovely poem :). I don't mind fall; it's winter I can't stand.

    Autumn, not my favorite time of year by any means. Love summer too much.

    I'll be glad to see the "searing heat" go. I love autumn - but not winter.

    I don't like the fall/autumn at all, though this poem fights its corner pretty well. Don't miss the slog of gardening chores, for sure!

    I can't wait for fall!
