Soy candles are great for the fragrance they give off while only producing a little heat. These are great for candle lit dinners, freshen up the house or to just set a relaxing mood in the home. You can make these candles yourself with the fragrance of your choice. In this guide, you will find easy steps to making the soy candles.
Soy candles are made of soy wax while ordinary candles are made of paraffin wax, which is a petroleum product. These ordinary paraffin wax-based candles are not environment-friendly because these produce a lot of soot and heat. When compared to soy wax candles, they are also expensive.
Soy candles are also natural. They last longer and produce less soot and heat too. Since they produce less soot, there will be fewer chances of messing up your walls and furniture. Also, scented soy candles produce fragrance that lasts longer.
You can make soy candles at home for you to use on some special occasions or any time you would like. You will only need a few things to make these soy candles. You will need soy wax flakes, a wooden spoon, candle molds, candle thermometer, wicks, a double boiler, candle dyes and fragrance.
First, melt the soy wax flakes. (Soy wax flakes are easier to melt than the soy wax itself.) You need to melt two ounces of soy wax to make one votive candle.
Allow the temperature to reach 170 - 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Then you can add the dye to the wax to give it the color you want.
Continue stirring the wax so the dye will blend together better. It is best to use candle dye and not water-based dye or food dye so you will avoid clogging the wick which may result in the difficulty of lighting the candle.
Maintain the same temperature and add your fragrance. Continue stirring to make sure it is mixed well. You need 1.5 ounces of fragrance for every ounce of wax used to make the candle.
Let the wax cool up to 155 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, pour it into a candle mold. Once a thin film is formed on the surface of the candle, place the wick in the center. Run a smooth flame on the surface without lighting the wick.
After making your first soy candle, you may find that it will become a hobby. These candles are so easy to make and they are also fun to make.
