An Easy and Healthy Way to Prepare Fish

Amber S.
Fish can be very easy to prepare with this simple method. Anyone can do it and the result is delicious! It is also very quick to prepare, so you can do it with hardly any hands-on time at all.

You will need:
one fish fillet
aluminum foil
a baking sheet
garlic salt and seasonings

Place your aluminum foil on the baking sheet. Lay the fish on top of the foil.

Sprinkle the fish with a little garlic salt. If that is all you have, it will be fine. If you have seasonings, you can sprinkle a little bit of premixed chicken seasoning or premixed fish seasoning. You can also sprinkle whatever else you have that is suitable for fish. Seasonings that taste good on fish include black pepper, savory, a small amount of mustard seed, cumin, thyme, and rosemary.

Smaller and more oily fish will not need butter. These fish include basa (my all-time favorite), catfish, crapie, cod, freshwater and ocean bass, whitefish, mullet, and other moist fish. Larger fish such as swordfish, shark, salmon, and tuna do well with a few small slices of butter placed on top before baking. If you do not have butter, you can coat the top of the fish with a very thin layer of extra virgin olive oil.

Pull up the sides of the aluminum foil, join the ends at the top and fold it over. There should be as few holes as possible for the steam to escape. Place the baking sheet with the fish into an oven set to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Bake until you smell a strong overwhelmingly delicious smell of fish, then let cook five minutes more. (total time is usually 20-30 minutes, depending on the size of the fish).

Remove from oven and leave wrapped until you are ready to place it on plates. For particularly fishy smelling and fishy tasting fish, squeeze some lemon over the top.

For salmon, in addition to your savory seasonings, you can give it a wonderful flavor by drizzling it with honey or, if you don't have honey, a little brown sugar. Salmon is also delicious when cooked plain and then drizzled with a cream cheese sauce. Mix melted cream cheese with garlic salt and seasonings and add after the fish is finished cooking.

I have recently been on a fish kick. This could be good.

This sounds very good! I don't use aluminum for cooking, so I would probably just use my heavy roasting pan with a lid. Thanks! :)
