Ingredients for Spanish Rice Recipe
2 pounds ground beef (or ground turkey)
1 large onion
2 green peppers
1 large can diced tomatoes
16 ounces tomato sauce
1 cup tap water
2 teaspoons chili powder
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 cup converted rice
Instructions for Spanish Rice Recipe
Step 1- Brown the ground beef in a skillet. Place it in a colander and drain the grease off of it. To make this recipe for rice, I also rinse the beef under tap water to get rid of even more grease. Allow the water to drain from the meat a little bit.
Step 2- While the beef is browning, chop up the onions and the peppers to make this easy Spanish rice. Place the chopped vegetables in the crock pot along with the tomatoes, sauce and water.
Step 3-
Stir in the seasonings for this easy Spanish rice dish recipe. Add the Worcestershire sauce. Stir in the rice and the browned beef.
Step 4-
Cover and set your crockpot on the "low" setting and cook the Spanish rice for about 7 to 9 hours. If you're in a hurry, set the heat to "High" and cook this recipe for rice for about 3 hours.
Stir it occasionally so the Spanish rice doesn't stick to the bottom of the crock pot. (Especially if you cook it on "High".)
Variations- You can adjust the amount of tomato sauce you use in this Spanish rice. This recipe is very rich in tomatoes. Sometimes I substitute some tomato juice (V-8 juice adds a different flavor to this easy recipe) for some of the tomato sauce to tone down the flavor. Adding the juice thins down this recipe for rice too.
If I have them on hand, I use 2/3 of a yellow pepper, 2/3 of a red pepper and 2/3 of a green pepper instead of using all green. It adds color to this rice recipe.
This Spanish rice recipe serves 6.
PS - One of the tastiest ways we've found to eat Spanish rice is stuffed inside a pita pocket. Scrumptious!
