An Enriching Harvest

The Farmers' Work Appreciated

April Higney
The heat of the sun settles upon the back of the farmer.

Stalks of sweet sugar and butter corn, standing tall,

tended in much labor, for productive growth,

dependent upon the much needed rainfall.

Harvest time has come,

and the hard work has proved itself in abundance, fulfilling a need.

Many roadside stands filled with the rich goodness of nature's giving,

and the care it took in sowing the seed.

An orange glowing moon settles overhead,

as pumpkin patches and peach orchards reflect the beauties.

The leaves upon the trees, changing quietly,

as the essence of a fresh baked apple pie and cinnamon drifts in the breeze.

Golden hues highlight in the fields of wheat,

and though the farmer is tired and worn, work continues long past the light of day.

A bounty this crop has given,

the scent of fresh baked breads, as families await the table's display.

In all the work, it is worth it now,

so many that will be supplied in need,

and the farmer rests now, until another day,

and again in care will sow the seed.
