An Example of a Grant Proposal for Community Land Development

My Palmer Cove Grant Proposal

Nick Bennett
Our proposed grant is so that the uninhabited area Palmer Cove baseball field will be used as an outdoor facility area. The cement pavement out near the batting cages is where we plan on to accomplish this.

The purpose of this project is to open this area for the use of the Salem State students, whether they are athletes or just people that want to work outside to get use to the weather conditions. Additionally, the area will be opening up to the Salem public.

Because this area is not well developed we think that this would benefit the kids in the neighborhood to get off the streets and do something constructive with their time.

Now the grantmakers are going to want certain needs/desires, which include:

· Something that will benefit a lot of people. This cause will benefit the public because not only is it going to be used for conditioning and fitness for Salem State, we plan on opening it up to the public so that everyone can use it.

· Low cost to build, this is quite easy as we plan on using left over pipes from construction that is going on around the town.

· SFL faculty will teach students through half-credit classes on how to use the equipment and make sure that everyone is safe.

· Location: Palmer Cove, which is off of Leavitt Street in Salem.

Executive Summary

- The initial problem is that many youths in this area spend their time with negative hobbies, such as drinking and smoking.

- Our group has found that Palmer Cove is an area that could use social improvement through exercise and sport.

- Our plan is to acquire money through this grant so that we might be able to use it towards improving the area and offering more positive ways for the people of this area to spend their time.

- Our total requested fund are two thousand (2,000) dollars and will be necessary to cover building supplies, service fees, and incentive for volunteers (including food and drink).

Statement of Need

· Community involvement is desperately needed in the Palmer Cove area, and the addition of an outdoor fitness area will promote wellness and significantly help the area. We consider that fitness equipment such as pull up bars, benches, and poles will bring people in the community together and give them positive and fun activities to do in their spare time.

· According to the Department of Health and Human Services, 34.1% of residents of Massachusetts get an insufficient amount of physical activity per week. Only 52.6% get the recommended amount of weekly physical activity.

· Our proposal will help fix this problem and increase physical activity and well being in this urban area. The Palmer Cove area needs this equipment and conditioning spot, more than any other place. Residents of this community don't have a place like this and will greatly appreciate and benefit from the construction of this fitness area.

Proposal Budget Building supplies (pipes, tires, cement, roofing supplies) $500

Service fees (transportation of supplies and contracts) $1,200

Rewards for volunteers (pizza, sandwiches, etc.) $300

· Service fees would include any materials that need to be transported or service from trucks. Eg: Use of cement truck from Essex Cement Company.

Project Description

In the development of our project we have found Essex Cement Company provides a reasonable fee for our goals and needs. Organizational Information

The particular community is composed of low to moderate-income housing, which coincides with Bank of America's mission statement of community involvement. Our eventual project will create sustainable community practices for the long haul.

Based on your mission statement about community impact, it is your mission to provide financial resources to help communities achieve their full potential as desirable places for people to live, work, and raise families. This project is an excellent opportunity to further your community involvement and betterment. Commitment & Capability

· The student-athletes are going to be the role models here. Whether it's to the rest of the student body here at SSC or the community neighborhoods. These younger kids are going to look up and see that this is what they can be like when they get to college as long as they stay on the right track. Our role models will help out quite a lot being a positive role model for this facility at Palmer Cove.

· The construction is going to be managed by a committee of representatives from SSC Sport, Fitness, and Leisure faculty, SSC Athletic department, and the Salem Recreation Department.

· We are going to use pipes and all sorts of things left over from around here at Salem to construct our order of business. This is going to make it so it's very cost efficient and is maintained by Salem Recreation Department because we are building it on their property.
