An Expert Review of the Sony VAIO VGN-TZ295N/XC Notebook with the 11.1" Screen

A Super Powerful and Super Mobile Notebook

Sony has done some amazing things when it comes to mobility and performance in their Vaio line of laptops. They have created an answer for Apple's Air notebook with the TZ series. I have gotten my hands on the light weight and paper thin Sony VAIO VGN-TZ295N/XC notebook. This notebook is one of their top of the line offerings and will surely fly off of the shelves when it hits stores. It is already breaking records with its presales. I'm going to give you a little insight into what this little notebook is capable of. First let's get started with a few of the basics.

Hardware:

Processor: 1.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo U7700

RAM: 2 GB RAM

Storage Space: 64 GB on a Solid State Drive (meaning that there are no moving parts and it accesses data very fast)

Optical Drive: CD R/RW with integrated DVD +/- burner

Operating system: Microsoft Windows Vista Business

This notebook is amazing. The boot up time is fantastic and I attribute that to both the powerful (considering its size) 1.33 GHz Intel as well as the solid state hard drive. It is also amazingly mobile being less than an 1" thick when closed and weighing in at around 2.6lbs. It is an amazing machine to behold and feels very sturdy despite its petite size. The battery life is just amazing and will last up to 8hours depending on usage. It will surely get you through some of those long flights when you pop in a few DVDs.

The notebook is quite fast when using it for normal tasks like utilizing Microsoft office programs or surfing the Internet. Even opening multiple browsers running flash heavy pages seems to affect it very little, and I've experienced little lag on this notebook during typical use.

Connectivity:

Integrated Wireless

Integrated Sprint Cellular modem

1 Ethernet jack (to connect to wired LANS)

1 Audio out / 1 Mic in

1 Modem input (so you can dial up some Internet)

1 Sony Memory stick slot / 1 SD card slot (so you can directly insert solid state mobile memory into this notebook)

2 2.0 USB ports (these are used to connect things like iPods, printers, and digital cameras)

1 VGA Output (this is a typical monitor connection)

There is plenty of connectivity on this wafer thin notebook, so much its actually a bit surprising! They've squeezed inputs and plug all over this thing. This thing was made to hit the road and boy will it. I would be shocked if anyone was disappointed with this notebook. It would please any techie as it does it's job well. You can pick one of these beauties up for a paltry $3100 or so, and worth every penny (if you have that many).
