An Fun and Easy Art Project Using Bubbles

A Fun Project for the Classroom, Home, or Camp

Sabrina Young
For a fun and easy art project perfect for the classroom, home, or camp, try creating art using bubbles. Each child loves seeing their blown bubbles make beautiful art pieces. Parents and teachers love how this art project is easy, inexpensive, and fun. This is a wonderful outdoor art activity for summer, spring, or on cool fall days.

What you will need for the Bubble Paint Art Project
You will need bottles of bubble soap with wands. These can be found inexpensively at the local dollar store or you can make your own with non-toxic liquid soap and water. If you make your own bubble liquid, test it ahead of time to make sure the ratio of liquid soap to water is correct. For extra art fun, include bubble sets of differing sizes, such as large bubble wands the size of a child's face, regular sized bottles, special multiple wands, and small mini bottles used for weddings.

To add color for the art project, you need to add several drops of food coloring to the bottles. Red, blue, and green work best and show up better on paper. For art paper, use white watercolor paper or thicker white card stock paper. Have enough art paper for each child to do one or two paint projects. Each child should wear an art smock or an old t-shirt. Food coloring can be substituted with non-toxic, washable paint. This fun art activity should take place outdoors, preferably over grass or an area that is not near cars and other objects that can be stained by the bubbles.

Art Fun
Give each child a wand. You can opt to give each child their own bottle of colorful bubble soap or have a shallow container full of bubble soap. Have each child take turns with special bubble wands and larger bubble wands.

Encourage each child to blow bubbles onto their art paper. The colorful bubbles will burst, leaving behind shapes like circles and ovals, and slight splatter. Because the colors are so light and transparent, a child can use many bubbles for a single piece of art paper. Large bubbles will leave behind giant circles, while the mini bubbles will leave behind many tiny bubble dots.

When the art papers are dry, mount them on colorful construction paper and set up a beautiful Bubble Art display.

Variation of the Bubbles Art Project
For extra fun, after each child finishes their beautiful bubbles art project, you can have each child use stamps to add fish swimming in the colorful bubbles or add extra detailing using color pencils.
