An Individual Contribution

Sam Landers
The thing that is going to cause our ruin,

Is without a doubt,

The evil that pollution is doing.

I think we will kill the Earth in about,

Two hundred years,

Unless we start to use our eyes and ears.

I'm sitting in the machine that ruined the world,

This machine is bellowing smoke,

The population is continuing to build,

And so the Earth begins to choke.

Humanity starts to die,

And I ask "Why God why?"

Environmentalists just talk and differ,

Other people take no notice,

And continue to pollute the streets and rivers,

Because we're a bunch of half-wits,

Who will not listen to reason,

And so we commit planetary treason.

Maniacs with chainsaws are cutting down all the trees.

All they get in return is financial profit,

And when they're choking, when they're on their knees,

I hope they think it was worth it.

But until then they will continue to destroy the products of nature,

Not thinking of the Hell we will all have to suffer.

The cities, towns and factories take up more and more of the landscape.

They call it the beauty of civilization,

The Earth is what they rape.

I call it the death of nature's creation,

And we cannot come up for air,

Because there isn't any there.

We travel along the roads,

Which are both a symptom and a cause of this crisis,

Where creatures such as hedgehogs and toads,

Are killed on a daily basis.

And so, as I travel down the motorway,

All I can see is the thing that is killing us, day by day.

I know what you're thinking,

"How can one person make a difference?"

You should know one important thing.

Every person is of the highest importance,

Because if every individual makes a contribution,

Then we can stop this awful pollution.

Now then, listen to what I say,

There are many types of renewable fuel,

It doesn't have to be this way.

And when I think there may be hope left after all,

My heart, with pleasure fills,

And dances with Wordsworth's daffodils.
