I am going to try to set religion completely aside while I make this argument although I believe that organized religion actually is the opium of the masses and it is and always has been a very successful tool in regulating the behavior of mankind.
Considering the fact that different people come from different classes, cultures, and literary backgrounds, the easiest way to manipulate the masses would be to keep your message simple. As a rule we all share certain characteristics, we are all aware of our pending demise and completely unaware of what happens to us when we die. We have a natural fear of the unknown and death is a universal unknown.
Although our definitions of right and wrong have changed during our history on this planet I believe that some universal truths have remained the same. These consistent taboos have remained because they are guidelines that insure the survival of our species.
I will admit that there have always been groups of people that deliberately violate societies taboos. Yet history demonstrates that these defiant societies are always doomed to failure.
To put it simply there will always be someone who builds a four sided structure with only three cornerstones. Yet this structure will always fall. If you build a complete city of four cornered structures that only have three cornerstones this does not change the laws of gravity, it only assures the structural failure of hundreds or even thousands of structures.
Incest is an example of this, Cannibalism is another example, extreme pedophilia and homosexuality, are the other two cornerstones that assure the success of our species.
I am not so naïve to believe that if 'Dan' and 'Steve' engage in homosexual acts that our society will fail, I also believe that if one man consumes another we will not be doomed to failure as a species, and if a grown man takes an 8 or 9 year old girl for a wife even that won't spell our demise.
I do believe that a large society is made up of hundreds of thousands of smaller societies and to condone the building of four sided structures with only three cornerstones is detrimental to everyone.
So with that said I definitely believe that homosexual acts are 'sinful'.
I believe that pedophilia is 'sinful'.
I believe that incest is 'sinful'.
I believe that cannibalism is 'sinful'.
Will I campaign against homosexuals? No I will not. However I will not do anything to condone or encourage this behavior. I will not watch television networks that condone encourage or exploit this universally deviant behavior and I will not vote for any issue that encourages acceptance or legality of homosexual behavior. I will raise my offspring with similar values.
It has been suggested, and may be true that some people are born Gay. It's true that we are all born hungry. And I would suggest that we have all admired the body of a relative in a less than appropriate way. These are urges and instincts and in no way represent behavior. To be born hungry is natural, to consume your neighbor isn't. To notice the budding breasts, or widening hips, of a girl turning into woman, even if she is a relative, isn't wrong, to molest her is. So I would say that if you are born with an alternate sexual orientation that's an urge and no ones fault, however homosexual acts are acts and would be in the same category as incest, cannibalism, and pedophilia.
Urges are natural and uncontrollable, behavior is a choice. If it is a choice than it can be right or wrong,or 'sinful' or 'natural' (in helium speak).

Post a CommentWhile I certainly don't like to see homosexuality in society, to me, there is nothing morally wrong with it- it can in no way compare to the other three sins you mentioned. Many religions state that it is a sin, but not one gives a valid reason why. It was a lie developed to hopefully convince the populace to continue multiplying, just as baptizing and raising children in your own religion is a lie, a survival technique developed by churches. It was easy to convince people as most are naturally uncomfortable with abnormal things. Remember Greece? the greatest minds, a blooming civilization, many were gay. I wonder what Christians think happened to them. God didn't exist yet.
I don't know if I can judge other people's behavior that isn't hurting anyone. Two gay people having relations is their own business. I wouldn't approve of anyone (gay or straight) flaunting or doing excessive public displays of affection. I do know that the man upstairs has the final word and that when working with anyone of any race, age or sexual orientation- you get more with honey than with vinegar. Acceptance is all anyone really wants. Hope your weekend is going well!
Risky article - you said it well.
I don't disagree with you nor do I agree with you. I treat homosexuality as I do hetrosexuality. I don't want to see it flaunted in public. Pedophilia, now that's another matter...one is partner is innocent and non concentual...the opion is strong here.
I applaud your bravery, and, for the most part, regarding homosexuality, we are on the same page.
