An Interview with Kerry E. Wagner, Author of She Did That

Londa B.
Kerry E. Wagner
Date of Interview: May 6,2007
Being a published author myself, I tend to critique most books I read as I go along. Well, unless it is by one of my fave authors, then I usually don't even have the chance to start my criticizing, because the story pulls me in. Well in todays world of lit, I have been feeling as though there has been a drought going on. That is until, I picked up a copy of Kerry Wagner's book, "She Did That." From start to the end I was entangled by the story that was told. Minus the grammar, spelling and punctuation issues, the story was clear.

I researched Mr. Wagner and this man has a true success story! It's stories like this that make me never want the desire of quitting my passion to surface in my life. Kerry will make anyone feel that with hard work, perseverance, dedication and ultimate hussling of your product, will get you exactly where you want to be. He is a hardworking native of Houston that dedicates majority of his time to his readers and his passion of writing. I can't tell you everything about this man. I will tell you this though. If you don't see about Mr. Wagner... you are truly missing out!!!

I was very happy when Mr. Wagner called me after he emailed me with the interview responses. I was very glad to have a voice to go with the face. The pictured developed even brighter. He was very willing to interview with me. Let me share a little bit of Mr. Wagner with you.

YB/AC: Kerry Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to conduct this interview with me.

KW: No problem, thanks for being so persistent in your hunt.

YB/AC: You are in such demand...I just had to stand in line and wait my turn!
YB/AC: Kerry share with the readers a little bit about yourself.

KW: I am a self-published writer form Houston, Texas. I tend to get hounded and hassled by haters on the the cool like I am famous or something. I'd appreciate it if they bought a book while bumpin their suckers. other than that, I don't let it get to me. I take it as a compliment now.

YB/AC: What is your ultimate writing goal in your career?

KW: Become an entity, a corporation, a commodity...stay self-published and own everything i touch or at least a majority of the stock where I did most of the ground work.

YB/AC: What motivates Kerry?

KW: Inspiration, that's my motivation, along with failure and death. I don't write unless I am moved to. I also will not speak if i am not compelled to do so. I will not be able to move my potential target by saying or writing anything! I ask people not to make me do it either, because I am dying to prove people wrong 24/7! In failure, I want to be successful in what I do now. I can't see myself failing with all that I have attained in my life. The death aspect? I feel it's right around the corner for me! Given the type of life I have lived, my window of maximizing my opportunities may be narrower than others. Some mistakes are harder to over come than others. Truthfully speaking, as long as I have air in my lungs I gotta try...die trying that is. I plan on winning no matter what goes down...LOSING IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME! If I have my way, my churen gone have one hell-u-va- story to tell about their daddy!

YB/AC: What pisses Kerry off?

KW: Lying on me conveniently. The most upsetting part is when you are caught lying, you never admit it, you keep doing AND patronizing me!!!!

YB/AC: Do you believe in shameless promotion? Is there something you will not do, in order to promote or gain book sales.

KW: I don't get into all that stuff.I am aware that most people tend to do things off the map to gain customers or an audience. However, if that marketing tactic is effective as well as successful, then there is NEVER anything to be ashamed of. The thing to be ashamed of is not promoting yourself to The highest level. i will never violate another individuals territory personally though. NOT MY STYLE! I stay above the belt. Long as everyone is fair, the games continues. If you caught going below the belt...IT'S ON!

YB/AC: What is the Kerry Wagner Factor? Kerry you have a very bold, sensual and wild style of story telling. every page make me feel as though my thoughts are being tickled, my brain massaged and my pulse, checked! What is the factor to your equation?

KW: I don't force anything. I only write when I feel like writing. I don't allow my self to really think upon anything. I just let the water run until it evaporates. I write down every though, paint every color, connect every dot and leave no stone unturned when I write. I have to keep the images in my head. Details are a must for me also. That is the food that goes into he souls of my readers. I invented a new term/genre of story telling. It's called "Storetry." It's a Lil bit of poetry sprinkled over the stories I write. Oh yeah, please tell Russel Simmons and his Def Poetry Jam crew, I already got that Copyrighted and Trademarked. It's going to be used in my new project. Keep ya eyes open for that project!

YB/AC: Kerry have you ever thought about collaborating with someone? Is this all about Kerry right now? Have you noticed anyone out there you would like to work with?

KW: Damn right it's all about me! That's who I go to sleep with and it's who I wake up to! That is who I see in the mirror, win, lose or draw! I sleep with no one but the person who is going to make it happen! This game is too tight to highlight someone that doesn't even have a fourth of the vigor and determination that I have. i have walked this road alone, and no one has really given me anything. Now that everything I touch (which is turning to gold) everyone wants to be apart of that and for Kerry...THAT IS SOME SUSPECT STUFF! It's funny how many these haters are trying to rip a brother apart on one hand. On the other though, they still read my blogs, leave comments on my page and request my presence at their book parties. I have no time for the fake ones. They an rip and tear apart my MYPSPACE page and I Will re-build it the same day. I let my writing, my mystique and persona speak for me. The rest will take care of itself. I mean be real Yulonda...who else am I suppose to do this for? I only plan on focusing on my business. I am not really interested in collaborating styles with anyone at this present time. My respect level is not high in the literary community to have such thoughts. They can't deal with a real brother like me.

YB/AC: Does Kerry ever get writers block?
KW: Never! Like I said nobody makes me do anything. No deadlines to meet, no quotes to match and no one to answer to. So without all those added pressures...life flows from my mind, to my heart to my pen! Even when you sent me these questions...I sent the responses when i felt like it. Did you feel disrespected?

YB/AC: Nope, not at all.

KW: Good, you recognize my game and most importantly...you respect it! That is just how I operate. My tombstone gone say, "HE DID IT HIS WAY!"

YB/AC: I'm feeling ya!

YB/AC: What is an unusual fact about Mr. Wagner? It has to be something we would have never guess about you.

KW: I am a grandmothers boy! I am a romantic dreamer at heart. I loathe others going through what I have been through. I hate for innocent people to suffer or to be taken advantage of. I don't like crowds or cowards. I am very private contrary to popular belief. I prefer things that are sacred over those that are secret. I am a loner, not lonely. Meaning I adore my quiet time to myself. I love being in that hotel room alone in simple thought. I love climbing mountains I ain't never seen before...simply by staring at it from the bottom up...never laying a foot on it. I love looking out the windows of anything moving faster than 60 miles an hour. My entire brain seems to slow motion everything down for me at times like that. And water...I am afraid of, no not afraid, I don't like that word. I RESPECT moving water. Oceans and rivers! If it has a current...Kerry ain't getting in! I I cherish glazing my eyes upon it. My eyes, my mind and my lungs just seem to open up more. I dream in the midst off all these things. You stole on me with this question Yulonda!!!!

YB/AC: NO, Kept it moving Kerry...I'm loving this.

KW: Naw, I think I told yall too much. Big difference between being personable and personal. This needs to be personable.

YB/AC: Where do you see yourself in one year?

KW: Getting paid for ALL my interviews. International book tour and living life to the fullest! It just keeps getting better and better for me.

YB/AC: Kerry tell us about your book, "She Did That."

KW: It's for sale now! Go to www.shedidthat.com

YB/AC: You are too damn much!

YB/AC: I noticed that you have a very large and dedicated following of readers/fans. How do you capture and contain your audience?

KW: I only target like minded individuals. Now how some of these fakes get on our train....is beyond my understanding. I guess they just want to be apart of something phenomenal. If I don't like something or someone...I don't entertain it! I am a fan of tough love, but I am very when when I exercise it. I am very fortunate to have a great support team.

YB/AC: What advice would you give to all aspiring writers?

KW: Hard work has only one reward...MORE HARD WORK! Be sure you are up for the task!
