Elicia Ausberry is a 23 year old James Madison University alumnus. She has recently been accepted to the prestigious College of William and Mary Law School to pursue her dream of practicing law. After years of hard work and dedication to her goals, Elicia is finally beginning her lifelong journey in the legal field.

When did you decide you wanted to be a lawyer? I've wanted to be a lawyer since high school. There was a career fair day and that's when the law profession sparked my interest and I've never let go of it.

What about this profession appeals to you? Prestige, the ability to use it to make major changes; political of socio-economical changes. Having a law degree is a powerful tool in putting those in motion.

What is your favorite historical case and why? Rowe v Wade because I identify with the answer in the judges opinion in that case, its effect has been monumental worldwide. Following that would be Brown v Board of Education would follow that. Most all political movements were usually backed by landmark cases such as those.

What do you plan to do with your law degree? I plan to practice law. I'm not exactly sure what type of law I want to practice, because I might like studying one type of law rather than practicing it and vice versa.

What steps did you take to ensure your career in law? I planned ahead. I talked to other lawyers who had taken the same path. I did a legal internship to make sure this is what I wanted to do before spending an exorbitant amount of money on a legal education. I a LSAT prep test. I made sure I maintained good grades and tried to stay active in the community.

A lot of people think lawyers are sleazy, what do you think about that? A lot of people make lawyers look sleazy, because good lawyers don't always get the recognition they deserve. People pay attention to the egotistical, greedy lawyers rather than those fighting for equal humanitarian laws and rights.

What do you think the most satisfying part of being a lawyer will be? Helping others, being able to provide for my family, and maybe even contribute to future landmark cases.

Do you have any expectations for The College of William and Mary Law School? Psst Yeah! I expect to receive a very good education from some of the most highly respected professors in the legal field. I also expect the next three years will be very challenging but, highly rewarding. I know after graduating from William and Mary, I will have the necessary tools to be a good lawyer.
