An Interview with Rock Band FILTER

FILTER
Proving that good rock bands never die, they just keep rocking - Associated Content was able to get a short interview with legendary industrial rock gods FILTER on their way touring through Philadelphia a few weeks ago. This mainstay of hard-rock radio during the 90's still has the moxy and moves to keep heads banging and hips shaking.

Founded in '93 by Richard Patrick and Brian Liesegang, Filter's first album, Short Bus, was released in 1995. The album was a hit, and included the controversial single "Hey Man, Nice Shot". Between Filter's first and second albums, the band became known for their soundtrack contributions Songs In The Key Of X: Music From And Inspired By The X-Files, The Crow: City of Angels; and The Crow: Salvation.

Associated Content: How is touring changed over the decade you guys have been together? Does it get easier or harder?

Richard Patrick: Touring is has become just another part of my daily routine. I've been doing it off and on for 15 years. I love it. Visiting different places, living out of hotels, long bus rides, etc. It's a lot of fun...

AC: Describe a FILTER fan....I'm sure you've started to see the same diehards year after year - and what are they like?

RP: Filter fans are the greatest. They know everything about my bands and me. I remember when my daughter was born; I got a ton of congratulatory notes and stuff. It was awesome. After every show, we hang with as many of the fans as we can. I know a lot of them so we catch up and bullshit with them as much as we can. We love our fans - a lot have been with me every step of the way in my career.

AC: Your song "Hey Man, Nice Shot" refers to former PA Treasurer Bud Dwyer's suicide. I was home that day and saw the whole thing on television - LIVE! It spooked me for life!

AC: You are exactly right. I saw that footage live as well. It had a profound affect on me and I wanted to try and understand what would possess someone to do that in front of the entire world.

AC: You guys are playing on the USS New Jersey in Camden. IS this a pro-military message or just a good venue?

RP: We are extremely pro-troops. We are anti-war, but we support our men and women who are serving in the armed forces.

AC: You're from Cleveland, does that really prove that "Cleveland Rocks!" And honestly, how many times have idiot journalists asked you that question?

RP: Cleveland does rock!!!! We had an n awesome show at the House of Blues there a couple of months ago. I like going back, seeing family and all that. But, I also love my new home, Los Angeles.

AC: So when you head thru Philly - which are you going to eat first, Tastykake, Soft Pretzel, or Cheesesteak?

RP: Cheesesteak for sure... I can't resist them.
