Attunements and the course are usually done via distance. Distance attunements are equally as valid and strong as in-person attunements. The manuals are extensive, and Chios healing is more like a course of intensive study than Reiki. The Chios practitioner is very involved in the healing process, more than the Reiki practitioner is channeling energy, the Chios practitioner channels and directs the energy to heal each defect in turn. Those wishing to learn Chios will commit to learning a process and practicing its techniques. There is only one version of Chios healing, unlike Reiki, which has hundreds of variations and offshoots.
