An Introduction to Ghost Hunting Beginners

Why I Find Ghost Hunting Fun and Exciting

Brett DeAugustine
Over the years I have watched every Indiana Jones movie one hundred and seventy three times... approximately. Since I was a kid the idea of a far away adventure in an exotic land yielded unbridled passion inside me. However, twenty years later, a job, three kids and a mortgage put somewhat of a damper of my fantasies of dangerous exploration at a moments notice.

For a couple years after my kids were born, most of my days were the same. I would go to work, come home, eat dinner, play with the kids and then put them to bed. Something I never saw Indiana do.

However, with the popularity of the recent TV shows such as Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, and Paranormal State I couldn't help but watch an episode or two. Soon I began to feel the passion I once felt for fictional movies turn into a drive to study the very real field of parapsychology. It was the perfect solution to the mundane.

What I did was really simple. I found that I could feed my need for exploration locally. Instead of traveling to distant lands, I went down the street. Rather than explore foreign countries, I journeyed into a realm of spirituality and shadow. Much like the pioneers of old, I discovered people and places that had come before me.

I do not pretend to know a great deal about the paranormal, much like Columbus couldn't possibly have known what lurked on the far side of the ocean. However, like Columbus I did know that the excitement came from the discovery of the unknown as well as daring to venture where others might be scared.

The best part of a paranormal investigation is the simplicity in which one can actively involve himself or herself in ghost hunting. It doesn't take a royal grant from Queen Isabella to purchase a standard digital camera and travel to a local cemetery. Conversely, unlike a trip across the ocean, a jaunt to a local haunt will not have your crew ready to mutiny. Finding a group of people with similar interests to ghost hunt with you will likely develop a companionship akin to a sports team. It doesn't hurt to head to a local watering hole to calm everyone's nerves after an active investigation either.

All kidding aside ghost hunting is an expedition in to the unexplained. Although it can be frightening at times, for the right people, it is no more daunting than a haunted house at a carnival. In general the fun lies within the knowledge that what you are doing is not only entertaining and exhilarating, but you also might just catch the elusive proof of life after death that many others have failed to produce. Surely a task worthy of Doctor Jones.
