An Open Call for Healthcare

Lloyd Gavin
Within a fifty years span of my life, the magic of television allowed me to witness the power of the human spirit bring change to favor the common good. I have come to believe that with that resolve and that same spirit, anything can be accomplished. I have been fortunate to see one man position himself before a column of Chinese tanks in Tiaminmen Square and defile the force of his government to quench descent. His action provided kindling to his fellow protesters to hold fast to their desire for a change.

Also I saw one man mount the Berlin wall, that separated Germany into Western and Eastern zones of control, with a large hammer and chipped away one brick under the watch of armed guards. After the first brick fell, the others fell with less effort. From this person's resolve this small breech in the wall cascaded into the ultimate reunification of Germany and a retreat of the mighty Soviet Union to its borders.

Then I saw the tiny nation of Estonia stand and break free from Soviet gravitational pull, defying the Soviet order to sing its beloved national song during its annual festival. Without weapons and in the face of an advancing Soviet army, the crowds launched into their national song and cancel its deed to remain a Soviet satellite. The Estonians' longing for freedom resonated a heartfelt cry through their song, paralyzed the Soviet leaders and thus initiated a damaging fissure in the Soviet influence. With that act of defiance, this little nation hammered a breech in their conqueror's power that aided the United Soviet Republic to its demise.

I saw unarmed leadership shepherd subjugate peoples to a new level of social justice in the United States and South Africa.

These great changes were the result of an unswerving resolve for a change in the order of business.

Now, it's our time! For American are losing health care coverage at ever increasing rate. A recent poll shows 67% of working American have health care coverage. Twenty years ago it was 80%.

To maintain their profitability, the private insurance companies do not fight escalating cost. Many of the working insured find their applications for expensive care denied. Instead of receiving needed treatment, they finds themselves battling truculent private insurance company seeking to absolve themselves of responsibility to cover treatments. They brandish a preexisting condition argument when care should be the first order.

Now it is our time to stand up and fight for the common good. We must sing our song of moral and fiscal responsibility. Educate our selves on the elements and email our representatives of desire. We must make clear the consequences of anything less is a no vote when reelection time comes. Say to them we demand effective and universal health care for all Americans. This is not an issue politicians will address. They are wedded to those who line their reelection coffers.

This is an issue for the people. We must resolve to chastise those who seek to oppose healthcare for all Americans.

Don't listen to their claims about cost and other side issues that are easily resolved by intelligent minds. It never cost too much for good health. A Mercedes Benz may costs too much, a flat screen TV can cast too much, but health care, water, protection, and education never cost too much. They are necessary for our species to survive and prosper.

Let each who argues against complete reform present the details of his coverage. If it is at the pubic trough, let him explain why you are not so entitled.
