An Open Letter to Islam

Notwithstanding what you may have heard on CNN and Fox, the rest of the world doesn't hate you.

Okay, we hate the radical minority who insist on murdering, maiming and terrorizing people of all faiths (including other Muslims who don't defer to their twisted ideal of what Islam is) but the world hates people who behave like that, no matter what their faith or ideology. Most of you hate them, too.

In every large group, and a few small ones, there are idiots. There are idiot Christians, idiot Jews and, yes, idiot Muslims. Amazingly, their ignorance and hatred give them more in common with each other, regardless of their sectarian beliefs, than they share with their fellow, but less radical, Christians, Jews and Muslims.

One thing that idiots of every creed seem to have in common is their love of television. Muslim idiots release videotapes that are played repeatedly on Islamic TV stations. Christian idiots give speeches that are broadcast repeatedly on Cable News stations across the Western hemisphere.

I can't think of many times when loud, emotionally charged propaganda has helped the world, but I can think of quite a few instances where the same propaganda has resulted in a lot of bloodshed.

I'd like to propose a deal to try and cool things off, and put us back on the path to a more peaceful world. You get everyone you know to stop watching Al Jazeera, and I'll get everyone I know to stop watching CNN and Fox.

It might not work, but maybe, just maybe, if we all just tune the idiots out for a while, we could get together and solve this thing. Call me. We'll do lunch.
