An Open Letter to the Majikal Thinker that Got Booted from Idol

Outside Reality Counts, Too

Tao Joannes
I don't remember your name, just that you were a little heavy, sang a Meatloaf song and told Simon Cowell "There is no reality but what you make."

I felt I had to say something because you're giving majikal thinking a bad name, and are probably going to wind up very disappointed, carrying on in that fashion.

But that's okay, you're young enough for American Idol, so you've still got time to learn, here's the skinny.

You can't place arbitrary time demands on your results, or be too specific in what you're asking from the Universe.

There's a way to get what you want, deciding that you're going to win American Idol and asking the universe to provide it, just ain't gonna cut the mustard.

Majikal thinking is about holding your goal foremost in your mind, and making sure every action you take advances that goal.

It's not about deciding you're going to re-write reality in absence of outside evidence.

You're right, there is no reality but what we accept, but there's nuance to the idea.

If you refuse to accept apparent reality and instead hold your discordant version as the true reality, that's known as neurosis.

If it gets so bad you no longer understand that your version and the real version aren't the same, we call that psychosis.

Neither one is going to get you very far, unless your intended destination is the looney bin.

Trust me on this one.

Here's the way it works,

*Decide what you want, be vague, but specific.

Sounds like BS, right? That's how you know it's good advice.

Applying your example to the problem...

You said "I'm goin to Hollywood, Simon, that's all there is to it."

That's good, excellent, almost perfect, and yet, so very wrong.

Here's the problem.

You said "I'm goin to Hollywood" that's a good goal, an easy one, all you need is bus fare, The Universe will provide you ample opportunity to realize that goal.

The problem is that, behind that statement, you meant "As an entertainer, as part of the American Idol parade of wannabe's" that's putting too specific a burden on the universe, because there are many people trying for that goal.

So, my recommendation is to be more specific, say what you mean "I'm going to Hollywood as an entertainer" or even, "I'm going to be a famous entertainer" but more vague, by not tying the result to a particular way of getting there.

The universe knows what you want, if you could get there through Idol, you would, but maybe, just maybe, getting booted from idol is what will get you there otherwise.

*Give it time.

How much time?

Enough.

If you wanna be the world's strongest man, you need time for the muscles to grow, likewise with talent, you need to be ready for the burden.

If you'd been ready to win idol, you'd win idol, but what is you dream, anyhow?

It's probably not to win idol, that's silly.

It's probably just what I said, you want to be a famous entertainer.

Winning idol, would be nice, but is not essentially necesarry to the attainment of your actual goal.

Just keep that thought in your head "I'm a fantastic singer and will be a famous entertainer" and work on it every day, as much as possible.

When you're ready for it, the universe will give it to you.
