An Opinion of the Best NFL Teams to Win Super Bowls in the History of the Game

Many football fans will claim that there is only one great NFL team to win a World Championship in professional football. Some others may say that there has been a single dominating NFL team in each of the five decades that the Super Bowl has been played. However, there are three teams that in my opinion stick out as the best Super Bowl teams of all time.

2008 New York Giants

In Super Bowl XLII, the New York Giants met the New England Patriots in the annual NFL championship game held on February 3, 2008, at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The final score of the game was 17-14 and the Giants won. The game was a rematch of the final regular season game for the two teams, which the Patriots won 35-38. The Super Bowl was a game that was a big defensive game for the first three quarters of the game. This was the reason for such a low scoring game. The final quarter began with the Patriots leading 7-3. This was the highest rated Super Bowl to date, due in part to their prior meeting being such a great competition.

1993 Dallas Cowboys

In Super Bowl XXVII, the Dallas Cowboys met the Buffalo Bills in the championship game held on January 31, 1993, at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. This game involved the Cowboys scoring the second most points scored in a Super Bowl and beating the Bill 52-17. This game matched up the Bills, who had made trips to the two prior Super Bowls, and found them losing their third in a row. The Dallas Cowboys, who already won Super Bowls in 1972 and 1978, made their sixth appearance in the meeting of the top of the NFC and AFC teams. Though it had been fifteen years since the Cowboys last went to the big show, it was Buffalo's record setting nine turnovers (five fumbles and four interceptions) that allowed the Cowboys to capitalize and score from many of their mistakes. The Cowboys held a record for scoring two touchdowns in the shortest period of time, which was 15 seconds. The Cowboy's defense sacked Jim Kelly, who fumbled the ball; Cowboy's Jimmie Jones caught the ball mid-air and ran into the end zone for a touchdown. This made the Cowboys go down in history with one of the biggest wins in the history of the Super Bowl.

2002 New England Patriots

The New England Patriots met the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI on February 2, 2002, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Patriots, led by Super Bowl MVP, Tom Brady, would win 20-17, in their first of three championship wins in four years. This was the final Super Bowl game played on AstroTurf, which was phased out in NFL stadiums due to the increased occurrence of injuries. The St. Louis Rams had their starting offense introduced individually. However, the Patriots decided an introduction as one team was appropriate, pushing the fact that they played and won games together as a team and not individually. In the third quarter the Patriots led 17-3. The Rams were able to tie the game at 17-17 with 1:50 left in the regulation. With no timeouts left, the Patriots were able to march down the field to get into field goal range, with Brady spiking the ball with a mere seven seconds left on the clock. This then allowed Adam Vinatieri to kick the game winning field goal from 48 yards away. This game went down as one of best Super Bowls to keep people on the edge of their seats.
