An Ordinary Day in February

Lisa R. Strong
Valentines Day is here again;
Candy will be bought;
Flowers will be sent;
Lovers will say "I do";
Rings of sparkling diamonds;
Bands of white and yellow gold;
Proposals on bended knees;
Intimate formal dining;
A toast of crystal bubbly;
Cards that say, "I love you"
Stuffed bears wearing hearts;
Yet I will see none of these things;
Beyond store shelf displays;
An ordinary day in February;
Cold, desolate and barren;
No romantic fire to warm me;
A reminder that I am alone;
Roses die and candy melts;
I need so much more;
A hand to hold;
A truly sincere heart;
So I shrug and I sigh;
Perhaps next year;
An ordinary day in February;
Will instead become extraordinary.

    Inspiring and sad, wonderful and heart wrenching. From life comes art, from art comes understanding, from understanding comes peace, from peace comes life. The circle of life complete. You create art, therefore life. Well done.

    Great minds think alike :) It's nice to know that there are others out there that feel the same way about this holiday though I wish we could all enjoy it to the fullest. It will be an ordinary day for me too.

    Great writing, Lisa.
    I felt that the final three lines were particularly poignent and powerful.
    Good poetry is not the domain of the timid!
