Your garage may not be the most gorgeous place in your home because it is used for storage and vehicles. But you can make it a more convenient place to find things. With a little help you should be able to find anything that you need very quickly. Though that is not always how things are at first, with some effort your garage can become a place that you will not only be able to find things in, but that you will be able to know exactly where they are with these helpful hints.
Things that you need to do before you begin
Remove and discard unwanted and old and ruined items. Do not keep them to sell or give to the needy because most likely no one else will be able to use them.
Dust or wash down the walls and the floors. Make sure that the surfaces are clean.
Add hooks and nails to hang items on. A garage can get very cluttered if you do not have wall space to hang items from.
Remove old workbenches that do not serve a purpose. Clean good shelving and use it for different items.
Great tips to remember for a great garage
Everything should have its place. Label all boxes clearly and legibly so you know what exactly is in each box.
Put things in sections. Example: Put all the picnic things in one area. Each holiday should have its own section to store items. You will also want to have a special section for sporting items and other types of things.
Workbenches should be the responsibility of the person that uses them. Some people are very picky about how their tools are kept, so be sure to let the person that is using them put them where they want.
Garages require cleaning on a regular basis. Keep a sweeper, broom, etc. handy to clean it whenever it is needed.
Interesting facts about garages
They are usually a safe place to store valuables because most people now have codes to enter their homes. If you are worried about your valuables in your garage, consider getting a miniature safe and keep it locked and secured at all times. Most other items will usually be safe in a garage.
Garages have a lot of space. Many unused corners and wall space go unnoticed. Don't forget to check out all corners and spaces on walls to hang things. This can make your garage much more spacious and less cluttered.
Turning off lights in a garage is very important. Do not leave them on throughout the night. You can't know if it is causing problems at all times, so make sure you turn off all lights before you go to sleep.
Whether you use your garage for your vehicle or for storage, you can make yours work. It takes some time and effort, but it is all worth it. An organized garage can make a huge difference for you and your family and it is well worth the effort.
