First, dedicate a decorative box to contain all the cards and accessories. If Christmas cards were not bought last season on clearance, purchase them at the beginning of the holiday season. This ensures a lot of time to prepare in advance. In addition, purchasing holiday cards before the holiday season begins will be less expensive. Check places such as EBay for a wide selection.
There are other ways to organize Christmas card paraphernalia though, so when cards are purchased, sending them will be a breeze. Start by compiling a list of who will be receiving a holiday card. Make sure addresses are current, and that everyone's name is spelled correctly. Make notations of name changes, due to marriage, for example. Also important, is a notation next to people who are typically sent packages. This way, a card can be tucked inside the package rather than spending money on a stamp and time addressing the envelopes. Also make a notation next to non-religious receivers or ones of differing religions, to delineate who will be receiving more generic "holiday" greetings.
Then, on a home computer, print decorative address and return labels. If cards have been bought in advance, addresses and return address can be printed directly on the envelopes. If a more personal touch is desired, cards can be hand-addressed well in advance. If composing a yearly holiday letter, begin a document on the computer with all the notable happenings through the year. This can then be edited and added to include anything of interest that occurs between now and the time the cards are sent. Writing most of it ahead of time though, will assist in the organization process. Stamps can be purchased online through the postal service. Decorative holiday stickers can be found at any craft store or online to dress up a card or to help seal it.
The only thing left is to write a greeting in each card. Generic greetings can be written well in advance, while more intimate greetings can be penned closer to the date of mailing. Keep the cards tucked in their respective envelopes, unsealed, in the box so adding messages, holiday letters, or gift cards will be easy.
Then, holiday cards can be checked off the long list of things to get accomplished before Christmas and everyone will marvel at your incredible organizational skills.
