In Nightfall Mysteries: Asylum Conspiracy, evil is afoot as players must help Christine find her grandfather who happens to be missing in the depths of the Ashburg asylum. The bulk of gameplay is based on visiting various areas within the asylum in search of hidden objects that are provided as a list on the bottom of the screen. Finding the objects progresses the player forward for adventure in new areas. There are also a series of 15 audio tapes within the game that can be discovered in the hidden object scenes to help unravel the mystery of the Asylum. The tapes may be listened to by dragging them on a cassette player, or by reading an available text version of the audio.
Puzzles are also a large portion of the gameplay, and a nice variety of them can be found scattered throughout the tile. Some of the puzzles feature tasks, such as, placing items in their correct locations, spotting differences between photos, matching games and more.
To assist players in the progress of the game, a notebook is always available for viewing. Within the notebook are notes, the tapes, and other information that has been collected throughout the journey. The clues tab found in the notebook provides game tips and help with the game's various puzzles. A map system within the notebook also allows the player to quickly see which areas are available, and those that have not yet been investigated.
What if players are still stuck? Not a problem. Within the game, a rechargeable hint system assists in finding the hard to discover items, and screen hints alert the player of an area that holds interest. If all else fails, Big Fish Games has made a walk-through blog entry for the title that provides help in solving the entire adventure.
Nightfall Mysteries: Asylum Conspiracy has not been rated by the ESRB, but is an enjoyable game that is appropriate for players who thrive for worlds filled with creepiness and mystery. A downloadable demo is available, and the title may be purchased online along with a strategy guide at Big Fish Games.
