Way back before I was in my mothers womb,
Even though she did not declare me
As a bastard child,
A name given to a faceless spirit.
I have had the blues since my skin
Was the skin I am was born with,
The skin that I am in always -
Where the notes of loneliness
Come from some far off place.
I am standing and walking towards
An uncompromising situation
From the shame of a disposed pain -
The testimony of indignity.
I have had the blues since
I could not remember my name,
And through it all
I have managed to keep
A broad sense of humor
Pertaining to my wonderful life,
An uncompromising deposition indeed.

Wow! This is a great poem, Alfonse. It's sad and lonely through most of it, with a hopeful ending. Love it!
Great poem.
