My daughter was our first child and had just turned five. My husband and I decided she was old enough to learn that there is no Santa,
On this specific Christmas, we did not hang a stocking filled with candy. We did not get her any gifts from Santa Claus. We also failed to mention that Santa was coming down the chimney. Actually, we never discussed Santa Claus at all.
We put her to bed the usual hour. We never put up a Christmas tree. Nothing in our house looked or felt like Christmas because we had decided she was old enough to not believe in Santa Claus.
We woke up early.
We checked out her in her bed. It was empty.
We noticed her sitting on a chair in the living room, looking out the window.
She looked so sad.
I asked her why she was crying and with a tear in her eye she told me that she was watching for Santa. She added, with a sniffle, that Santa forgot about her.
He did not leave any presents.
She began to cry
She jumped up quickly
She went into her bed and cried.
My husband and I looked at each other and knew we had to do something fast. We would have to find an store that was open on Christmas Day and buy her a few Christmas Gifts.
He had an idea of one store that was open and quickly dressed and ran out the front door. In a little while he came back with gifts from Santa for our little girl. He managed to save the day. He went to the drugstore and bought a few gifts.
He quickly wrapped the gifts, added Christmas Decorations around our house, and placed them in places she would easily see. Then we waited.
She began to smile as she walked into the newly decorated the room.
She ran around checking out her gifts from Santa.
She was so happy she kept shouting, "See, Santa did not forget me"
She ran around opening her presents.
We felt so good seeing her smiling that we learned an important lesson. Fron that day on we never stopped celebrating the Christmas holidays until she stopped believing in Santa Claus all by herself.

Post a CommentWhat a wonderful story of saving Christmas. I still put out stockings for any family member or guest at our house.
Very good! Heartwarming!
Ahhh heart warming.
I remember when I started to think it was time to axe the idea of the Easter Bunny. My daughter, who was around 5 at the time, walked up to me as I was loading the dishwasher and said, "I know there's no Eastern bunny. You did a pretty good job, though."
Somehow, kids grow up and stop believing all by themselves. With the world such a mess these days, I think we should allow kids to be kids until they stop believing all by themselves.
Thank you for all your great responses. I really missed you guys.
My daughters still believe in Santa. I know they will find out on their own soon enough, I let the magic live with them as long as possible!
Nice work. I still believe in Santa because he is the spirit of giving.
Nice save, all little girls need to believe in something, cheers :)
