An Uninvited Guest - when Rhymings Deep Disturb My Sleep
Creativity's a Blessing, and Fresh Ideas a Gift, Unless They Start Oppressing and Give One's Rest Short Shrift
Charlotte Brontë
(1816 - 1854)
I'm living in a hornet's nest;
I need to get my beauty rest.
A certain problematic pest
Has placed me under house arrest.
What might have been, and make-believe,
Beyond what minds may dare conceive,
Imaginings without reprieve
Have caused my ease to take its leave.
Creative musings, deepest thought,
Are leaving me downright distraught.
My eyes are teary and bloodshot;
To sleep and dream, nay, I cannot.
I need a pleasant, peaceful place,
A simple, sympathetic space,
Where I can find a change of pace.
Lord, that would be a saving grace.
Ideas appear, like unplanned callers,
Midnight interruptions, brawlers,
Stealing slumber, as free-fallers,
Counting sheep, instead of dollars.
I'll place a pad beside my bed
To jot the thoughts my mind has bred,
For inspiration, left unsaid,
To clear the clutter in my head.
'Tis then perhaps I'll dare to dream,
To calm my mind, my thoughts redeem.
Beneath the bright and fair moonbeam,
My soul shall rest in peace serene.

Post a CommentGreat minds think alike - literally in this case. lol My thoughts are always keeping me awake and OI dream articles and poetry that I have to wake up and write down. Such is the life of a writer. lol But at least we get to share with others and use it to pay our bills. lol
We sure do. Good one Linda :)
We get to reap the benefit-from your lack of sleep!
Absolutely stupendous!
You are so talented.... is there any situation u can't rhyme about? What talent....Lyn
I wish I had just a little dose of this since I am fresh out of ideas to write about at present. So if you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. I have been there before though and I can completely understand where you're coming from. Great job!
Very nice piece. Enjoyed!
Brilliant write, I sure enjoy your writings...;)
I can so relate to this, going through the same thing back in the summer when I first started writing, I couldnt go anywhere it seemed, without wanting to write something. thankfully my thoughts have eased. good luck to you my dear friend. I wish to thankyou and everyone else that has made comments on my writings lately. it has been a rough time for me over the past few weeks. thank you all, Ken
I relate only when it happens to me it's not in rhyme! I was in the ER last night with my husband (false alarm), it was pure Hell, and I thought of whether you would be rhyming in a situation like that. :)
