An Utterance of Love

Tribute to a Loving Mother

Karen LoBello
One year ago today, our beautiful mother left this world. All nine of us knew how lucky we were to have been born to our wonderful parents, Callista and Ben. They are together now, which is a comforting thought. In honor of Mom, and with my sister Judy's permission, I am sharing a poem that she wrote about our mother. Judy's inspiration came when she was just eighteen years old. She remembers Mom lying on the couch and the words just flowed as she watched her sleep. Afterward, Mom's face would light up whenever she read these verses.
Even though we miss you, Mom, we all know that Dad...and God...are now enjoying your company.

An Utterance of Love

Since my first breath, I've perceived
with admiration, your elegant life.
No matter how long my eyes may stand peeled,
the amazement of your humanity astounds me.
Watching the faces as you enter a life,
I observe the kindness you show to others transform
into love and admiration for you.

As you gaze into the distance, the serenity of your gleaming eyes
strikes an amazing curiosity in me as to whether
you are cherishing the beautiful accomplishments of your life,
or wondering what task the future shall bring.
Surely, you never go without a thought.

And when the road became rocky, your profound strength and
belief in God crumbled the stone
and cleared for you a smooth path.

Pride and admiration were present in your children
as they witnessed the emotional happiness which you
so gracefully expressed when their actions brought
happiness to you and Dad.
For you taught us that happiness, above all things on earth,
is the ultimate goal in gaining success.

Someday, I dream of seeing myself as a
mirrored reflection of you, Mom.
It is then I shall know that my life is fulfilled.

What a touching poem. I can understand your pain in losing your mother, as I have also lost mine.

Your mother looks alot like my own in that photo. (When she was young.) The love and admiration for your mother flows freely from the verse. Beautiful.
