Analysis: What Royal Oak Dedicated Park Land Vote Means for You
Neighborhood: Royal Oak
Detroit, MI 48067
United States of America
As a person who covers Royal Oak, and has worked as a political consultant in the past, I have received a lot of phone calls, e-mails, and Facebook messages from friends and family in the city over the passed proposal to make the Normandy Oaks Golf Course, Royal Oak Golf Course, the amenities of the ROGC into dedicated park land. They all want to know what the ramifications of this is.

Well, since the Normandy Oaks Golf Course, Royal Oak Golf Course, and the amenities of the ROGC are now dedicated park land, no significant changes can come unless the residents of Royal Oak approve it in a vote. That means that any significant alterations to the land, reconstruction, or the sale of the land has to be approved by the residents of Royal Oak.

We should expect that the Normandy Oaks Golf Course, Royal Oak Golf Course, and the amenities of the ROGC are all going to run as they do now. Fees will still be collected in the same way for upkeep. It should not be expected in the near future that taxes will go up since these are now dedicated park land. The regular fees will cover that.
